Marion Barber next?

Post#1 » by xTitan » Mon Oct 18, 2010 5:24 am

According to Jason Wilde there have been talks, I would not pay much for him to be honest, he hasn't really looked good in over a year. Barber is a violen runner and time may have taken some toll..

May be a case of a reporter getting confused by something that was initially presented as pure speculation. That article says: "ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported Sunday morning that it’s Barber that the Packers and Cowboys have discussed."

All I actually see from Mortensen is the following tweet: "Don't know if it will happen, but if Cowboys lose today, Packers are looking for an RB....Marion Barber? Trade deadline Tuesday."

That is from this morning and is obviously just Mortensen tossing a guess out there, not a confirmation there were actually any discussions. Has Mortensen said anything more substantive since then?

I don't think Barber is good enough that McCarthy would change from treating the running game as a spare part to his passing game.

It also does seem like Rodgers may be changing quite a few run calls to pass plays. Numerous times the last few weeks the offense will come out in the I formation or two FB's along with a RB and i'll see Aaron calling an audible which almost always ends up being a pass.

The RB you want out of Dallas is Tashard Choice. Everyone complaining about not getting Lynch should watch this kid Choice run the football.

Too little, too late.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

That's who I'd like.

And it's not too late. We've had three tough losses, but with as bad as the NFC is this season, I wouldn't write us off yet.

I don't see much left in barber's tank, I think at this point we have far larger concerns than depth at RB.

Maybe like any posistion in our front defensive seven.

I squandered an asset? Then Hammond taught me well.

I'll take any of the three RB's from Dallas, and a coach who will protect his QB by using that said RB.

I also think w/out question we should go get Merriman. We are still in this thing. Woodson was once said to be done and his career has been revitalized. He's in an exact position of need.

Barber is the perfect fit for this offense.

Finally, this gives us the shot in the arm we need, as PP has been suggesting.

You're kidding right? WE're a game out of division lead in a conference that we're only a game out of having the best record. It's far from too late. We're about to get much healthier. It's not too late.

Even if we somehow brought in Chris Johnson, do you really think MM is going to change the way he coaches? He would still get 7-12 carries and that's it.

I disagree. I think that if you find the right back, he goes back to running more. Even McCarthy knows that the running game has been impotent for most of the season.

When McCarthy was the offensive coordinator/playcaller in New Orleans he had Aaron Brooks as his QB and Deuce McAllister as his RB and he still ran a pass happy offense. What exactly makes you think with Rodgers and any running back he would sway from that? McCarthy is a pass first coach period, he could have Michael Vick as QB and a backfield of Barry Sanders and Walter Payton and he would still pass the ball first and foremost.

He has always been the kind of coach that runs the ball in the 2nd half to close out games. I agree that we aren't going to see a 25 carry back, but I think that he gets up to 17 carries if he brings in an every down back.

I'm not in love with Marion Barber, BUT I think that he is one of those backs that has usefulness even going into next year. I think that Grant and Barber have contrasting running styles that would make our offense even better next year. This is all assuming Barber has something left in the tank. He is running behind one of the most putrid offensive lines in the league this season.

Arrigo on packer chatters again...

I received an unconfirmed message saying the Packers and Cowboys agree to a deal. The Packers receive Marion Barber and the Cowboys get a 4th round pick. Again THIS IS NOT CONFIRMED SO DON'T BLAME ME IF IT DOESN'T HAPPEN.

supposedly to be announced tuesday morning...

That guy is such a royal jackass and full of himself. He posts this stuff all the time. He probably saw the ESPN rumor made it his own, but then said it's unconfirmed. If they agreed to a deal just say it.
