Prediction: KOC and Sloan will get awards

I have been Sloans and KOC biggest detractor in the past.

I hated that Sloan never used AK-47 at PF position but he now going to do that at times during the game. I have called for his firing for the 5 seasons prior to last season. I have had a change of heart! Sloan did a great job with the Jazz last year. The Jazz were a bunch of free agents to be more worried about earning a contract than winning games and Sloan got them to win games. I think the Jazz will have the best, or second best, record in the West this year, thus I think Sloan will win coach of the year. He deserves it as he has modified his style in dealing with today's players while keeping his toughness and high expectations of his players. It is impressive when announcers talk about Sloan demanding his players to be in Jazz shape suggesting other coaches in the league are unable to make those type of demands on their players. Jerry Sloan 2010-2011 NBA Coach of the Year!

I use to hate KOC for not getting rid of Boozer years earlier as clearly Boozer/Memo combination didnt work as they both suck defensively. Boozer was also clearly an injury prone player that cares more about Boozer than the team success. KOC made up for it this off season. KOC had a sinking ship after Boozer was gone but he got the trade exception needed to get Jefferson. He drafted Hayward and Evans, and stole Al Jefferson from Minn. He also added defensive toughness in Watson and Bell. He had a tough job this summer and did it extremely well. KOC 2010-2011 GM of the Year!

Its going to be a special year for the Utah Jazz. I have not been this excited about a Utah Jazz team since Stockton and Malone were at their peaks.

I think Stan Van Gundy will win coach of the year this year to deny Sloan once again

After not winning it for 03-04, it seems impossible to give it to him now. It wouldn't seem right. They missed their chance to do the right thing then, and giving it to him this year without another incredible over-achievement wouldn't work right imo.

I'm glad to hear your coming around on the sloan thing. Him and LHM over 20 years are the only reason SLC has a pro basketball team.

The only reason Sloan didn't receive the award that year is because the Jazz didn't make the playoffs IMO. But since most people were predicting the Jazz would win about 10 games, he should have won. Having an above .500 record with a team that was considered among the worst ever is nothing short of amazing.
I can't see Sloan winning the award this year though. The Jazz were a pretty good team last year. Unless they win 60 games, he has no chance. It will probably go to a team who wins 10-15 more games than people were expecting. Hard for the Jazz to win 10 more games than last year.

Requirements for this to happen:

Must finish top 1 or 2 in the West, Top 4 or 5 overall.
Must have a faaaaaar better road road.
At least 2 All-Stars
At least one player All-Nba
Hayward must be a crucial part of the rotation
Must win games with D-Will out

I don't see it happening, but it would be sweet!

The thing is that Sloan keeps getting more recognition in the voting each year he stays around. People are realizing how stupid it is that he hasn't won the award yet, he could win it purely off of his life work as a coach regardless of how the team does.
