LA's broadcast team
Sorry if this doesn't warrant its own topic, but I just wanted to say how refreshing the Lakers' broadcasters are. Having NBA League Pass, I have to suffer through the league's biggest homers day in and day out (including my own Jazz crew), and it makes the games really hard to watch sometimes. The Kings, the Blazers, the Rockets, and the Celtics all come to mind as particularly brutal.
The Lakers seem to have the most unbiased announcers in the league, dating back to the Chick days. They don't bitch about calls and generally give the other team credit when warranted. Kudos to the fellas in LA.

Re: LA's broadcast team
They do seem to make a concerted effort to be unbiased. Sometimes it sneaks in there, but that's going to happen.
Joel and Stu are alright, but I can't wait for Spero Dedes to take over the mic. Listening to the play-by-play in the car is actually a pleasure. He paints a good picture of the game.

Re: LA's broadcast team
I've been saying this for a long time. Our broadcasting crew is awesome. Great knowledge of the game, the league and they are always fair in praise and criticism of our team and the opponents.
The Blazers announcers on the other hand are just brutal.

Re: LA's broadcast team
It's interesting, because Joel did Spurs games for a couple of years, and he was one of the bigger homers in the league. Or maybe I just hated the Spurs that much. But it certainly seems like he's toned it down a bunch. And Stu, as much as he enjoys his imaginary conversations, is anything but a homer.
Listening to some of the other crews, I honestly don't see how people could sit through that night after night. A bunch of complaining, where ne'er was heard a discouraging word about the home team, just isn't what I want to listen to. I have to think anybody with half a brain would agree.

Re: LA's broadcast team
I was talking about this last game, but I really get tired of Stu whining about how long games are, or how many fouls are being called, or that he wants to go home. He's got a great job, and his job is to do pretty much anything but make watching a game annoying.
I'm pretty sure that's his job description. Stu, just don't **** up Laker games for the viewers.
In the future, I'd really like to see a SAP option to just hear the game sounds and maybe just the on-court announcer.
Anybody catch those games where it's without play-by-play and the sideline camera angles? Those were nice to watch.

This isn't the only time I've seen somebody say this about the Lakers broadcast team.

I'm over Joel meyers as our playbyplay man. I can't believe he's still around. Every time i see him i think about how he looks exactly like this.

the radio post game questions guy is matt "money" smith, who hopefully replaces norm.

Re: LA's broadcast team
money doesn't do post-game anymore since the lakers moved over to 710 espn. he's a 570 klac guy.
as unhomerish as stu and joel are, i would love if spero and mychal took over soon. spero is the man.

Re: LA's broadcast team
I love listening to Stu Lantz (Joel Myers too I guess). Spero Dedes on the radio does a fantastic job as well.
Two broadcasters (Clippers) that I enjoyed listening to were Bill Walton and Ralph Lawler.
"Oh me oh my!"
"What would the Clippers do without Eric Piatowski?"
"BINGO!"

Re: LA's broadcast team
Joel Myers is hard to listen to. He's a former Spurs announcer and he was talking about partying with the Spurs the last year they won the year before he came to us when he was announcing his first couple of games. It just pissed me off.
I like Stu a lot, but he can be a little too much at times. He talks too much for a commentator. Chicky controlled him, but he does whatever he wants with Joel.

Not sure if anyone else noticed or if this had been brought up before but Spero has been doing NFL games for CBS this season. I've been watching the red zone channel, they cut to various broadcasts when a scoring opportunity arises, and was shocked to hear Spero's great sports radio voice coming through the TV. I'm very curious to see if it was just a part time gig now that the NBA season is starting, hopeful he hasn't left the Lakers for good.

The Rockets guys are by far the worst in the league. I live about 100 miles from Houston so we get most of their games on Fox Sports.
They are without a doubt the most biased and annoying crew in the business.

You know I think this is the legacy of Chick and also maybe Vin Scully. Our fanbase expects it of our guys. The Clipper fanbase however probably pines for the return of Bill Walton

he hasn't left the lakers. just like spero doing ncaa games, he does the nfl while the lakers aren't playing.
