John Farrell the next manager of the Blue Jays

Post#1 » by darth_federer » Sun Oct 24, 2010 6:04 pm

But Red Sox owner John Henry confirmed it last night.

“The Jays are getting a great baseball man and a great person,’’ Henry wrote in an e-mail to the Globe. “We were able to keep John as a part of our organization longer than a couple of other teams would have wanted, but it really is time for John to step up to the next level.

“He will be an effective, excellent manager. I expect him to manage in MLB for as long as he wants to. He’s going to an excellent young team with a strong and smart hierarchy. The Blue Jays are going to be a force in the AL East for some time to come. I am grateful for the years John Farrell gave to the Red Sox. He will be missed.’’

Farrell is expected to be introduced in Toronto tomorrow. He was with the Red Sox for four seasons.

Sportsnet also said that the Blue Jays have scheduled a press conference for Monday

This is great news and just another example of AA getting it done. In less than 1 year he has totally remade the impression of his club in this town and around the league. Good for him, good for Besston and good for us Jays fans.

I agree. We can't say whether these moves will lead to a championship, but what is important right now is heading in a positive direction and a big part of that is getting the franchise and the city back on the baseball map and back to major respectability.

Really like the hiring. Farrell was a good choice and hopefully he'll take this team in the right direction.

Farrell wasn't my top choice, but he does the fit the mold of someone I was hoping to see get the job. Hopefully it works out, but there is no doubt that AA has done his homework on this one.

Anytime you can pry away one of your rival's coaches, that's a good thing. Tack on the fact that he knows the playbook on the Red Sox's pitching staff and that's also a good thing.

Odd, Sportsnet has been saying Wednesday in their ticker all weekend. You would think they would know.

Yet you've labeled the hiring as 'taking a step back' and questioned AA's thought process since it was unofficially announced.

It'll be exciting to find out the real future gameplan for the team on the field. Will he want to play to our current strengths and swing for the fences to contend? Will the Red Sox take Bruce Walton away from us?

So you're telling me it's no different than any other managerial hiring ever made before?

wondering if he did too much homework. it was a ridiculously extensive search. not sure if other clubs respected the process or laughed at it.
