Wilson Chandler?
From the draft board there is a rumor going on that we are to get Wilson Chandler for a first round draft pick in '11. What do you guys think of this? I think if this happens then we have to be considered contenders no?
PG-Parker/Hill
SG-Ginobili/Anderson
SF-Jefferson/Chandler
PF-Duncan/Blair/Bonner
C-Splitter/Duncan/Dyess
The Knicks fans are saying that he's a good defender and their best perimeter defender which is exactly what we need more of. His shooting isn't very good but we already have a lot of shooters as is so that won't be a problem. And there are reports saying that Jefferson has worked his ass off this summer and is looking improved and better than he was last year so there's even more reason to be optimistic about this season. This could possibly be the most talented Spurs team we had in years.

Ya I seen this too. But I still can't find any source thats reporting it, not even a unreliable one.
Being the best defender on the Knicks really isn't something to be proud of either. But I wouldn't mind picking him up; he's a okay defender, decent rebounder, good athlete and he's an okay scorer.

I don't get the last part of your post...
"That's coming from a Laker fan"
Is that supposed to mean something?
Anyways, I say no to Wilson Chandler. Reason being, we're already near the tax right? I'm sure we're either over it, or really close to it right now after RJ's resigning. We need to resign Tony Parker unless we plan on losing him for nothing at all. That's either gonna cost more money than we're paying him right now, or roughly the same. Chandler is going to be a FA next summer. Meaning if we are to keep him, it's gonna cost us more than whatever his rookie contract is paying him right now. Do we have that money to spend? No. Not to mention I think I rather we use the MLE on someone better and more proven than on Chandler.
There's no way we're gonna resign Parker, resign Chandler, and use MLE. Peter Holt isn't likely to let that happen. So we're likely to trade a 1st round pick for a one year rental backup SF. Good deal? Not in my book. Chandler doesn't solve our weakness. We need shooting and defense right now. Not exactly Chandler's strong suit.

Re: Wilson Chandler?
I think he'd be a solid addition for you guys. Gives you depth at your weakest position. In fact, I could see him starting over Jefferson, which would allow Jefferson to lead the second unit - and being a lead scorer is a role that he's used to, so I'd expect you'd get more out of him.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

Re: Wilson Chandler?
It won't happen. I can't see why the Knicks would part with him for a draft pick only. Surely they could do better than that. And even if they did accept a 1st rounder, why not make a trade with a team that will at least be in the running for a lottery pick? The best they could hope for from us is from say 20th on up.

Re: Wilson Chandler?
They have the "Eddy Curry" asset to trade for a pick. His ending contract maybe means something to another franchise..
As i said before, young, athletic and good player to develop, but his shooting is not good and i'm not sure about how he could fit in the Spurs team. Also, the other important issue is his ending contract which being re-sign for little money is going to be taugh.

Re: Wilson Chandler?
The rumors are that the Knicks need a 1st round pick to give to Denver in the Melo deal and are willing to give up Chandler for it (obviously they tested the market and found out no 1st round pick is going for less). If that is the case, I think Chandler could be an excellent addition and I'd give the pick.
I've fought with Knicks fans in the past who have tried to make Chandler look like the new Scottie Pippen but he is a great option for the SF position. He is really a capable defender and he is never taking bad shots. It really hurts to see how D'Antoni is killing the talent in the team with his meaningless schemes.
P.S.: I also read on the Knicks board how they think we might be after Landry Fields. Although I don't see how we take him and why on earth NY give him up, I am all for it - he is loaded with talent and is certainly a steal for them in the 2nd round.

Re: Wilson Chandler?
Question is how you keep Chandler beyond this season. He's in his last year and is likely to get paid. Spurs just spent 10 mil a year for RJ and I don't think Chandler beats out RJ like some school kids. You don't want to pay the MLE for some 15 minute guy.
Ofcourse I wouldn't mind getting a player with talent at the SF position, but it's got to make sense financially and for the future. Depending on what happens this season, our draft pick could again be in the 20s. I'd rather get another James Anderson.

Re: Wilson Chandler?
I absolutely agree that Chandler is not better than Jefferson, I meant that it would be great to have Jefferson and Chandler as our SF rotation. Obviously there is little guarantee Chandler stays beyond this season but I've always said that you can find talent ANYWHERE in the draft if you are looking for it (how we got Blair in the 2nd round for example). The thing with the draft is there are always teams that are reaching with certain picks instead of going for the sure thing - that's how better players end up going late.

I'd take Chandler over RJ in a heartbeat.

I would give up a late 1st rounder for Wilson. That would provide additional depth at the wing our weakest position.

Re: Wilson Chandler?
Landry Fields is the kind of 2nd rounder that the Spurs usually find. The kind of guy that makes the rest of the league say:
"How the hell do they keep finding these guys?"

When they picked him and Rautins back to back I thought they were crazy. But both of those guys have looked great so far, especially Fields.

Re: Wilson Chandler?
i'd totally do this trade in a hearbeat. Even if Chandler bails after one season. He's a pretty good player and as was mentioned earlier gives us the ability to move Jefferson to the bench so he can be 'The Man' of our second unit.
Everything i've seen from Chanlder points to the fact he's an athletic defensive orientated wing player...pretty much what we need.
Fire away, lets make this deal happen.

Re: Wilson Chandler?
I don't see it happening. Chandler would likely be included in any trade involving Melo, so if he goes anywhere, it's more than likely going to be Denver.

Re: Wilson Chandler?
I think Denver wants a first round pick more than Chandler and the Knicks are supposed to be trying to get it from the Spurs.

Hmm. Okay. I would welcome any trade that sends RJ to the bench.

So Denver values a late first over a legit starter??
