Game -7... Wash at Detroit sunday

Post#1 » by kellmellus50 » Mon Oct 25, 2010 12:04 pm

10/31 Wash at Detroit 1- pm

This game like last year will be won or lost by Staffort , and after this game i do not want to hear that he was rusty because of the time off ,that excuse will not be accepted .

P.s first place is only 4-3 so if the lions go on a run they could catch them just a thought.

Well those 2 first place teams play each other one time, and we have to pass up all teams. By default one of those teams might as well be 5-3 right now, we just don't know which. But we have to catch one of those 2 teams for sure with a 5-3 theoretical record. And since we haven't played any AFC teams yet, too many of our losses are piling up in the division (0-3 so far) and conference (1-2 so far), so we are 4 games back of our division leader, possibly even 5 needed to jump ahead.

For all intents and purposes we MUST win our 3 other division games, just to have a fresh 1/4 chance to win the division. If you gave us an even chance in each of those games, we are looking at 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/4, for about 1/32 chance of winning the division. If we lose to WAS that will be a HUGE loss to our remaining chances since our conference record will be far more screwed giving us much more unlikelihood of fairing well in any tiebreakers. When you have 6 or more losses on the year, you hope that some of those losses went to AFC games, but all of ours will be non-AFC games, very bad. Plus you could argue our non-division games later this year are harder than the ones we have had so far.

I like the Lions in this one. Chicago played one of the worst NFL games ever and still darn near beat Washington. Lions match up well here, our DL vs. their OL and our passing attack vs. their pass defense--as long as the OL holds up. I expect Stafford will get some by Orakpo & Co. and I'm curious to see how he responds. I also like the Lions run defense in this one, as the Skins lack any back that can really bounce inside runs quickly outside once thru the line, which is the type that just kills us. Ryan Torain is solid but doesn't have that kind of wiggle.

I see us winning this game. Washington does not impress me very much and their receivers are awful. I do see Cooley killing us in the middle though.

Im excited to see Matty back and playing again. Hopefully Backus doesnt get smoked leading to him getting killed again

I said it preseason almost as wishful thinking, but his play has beared it out: Jeff Backus is the best tackle in the NFC North. Cherilus is no worse than 4th thus far too.

I mean yeah but is that more of an indication of how Backus is playing or how god-awful the LTs in the NFC North are?

Bigger backs always seem to give us fits....and Torain just ran for 125 against a pretty stingy Bears defense...

I look for Torain and Cooley to have good days....

I like our chances in this one. We're coming off the bye with time to get guys like Calvin, Jahvid, Stafford, Delmas, Levy all healthy. We had time to re-evaluate some mistakes and work out some kinks... and dare I say... Washington might have a worse defense than our Lions do.

I expect rust with Stafford early, but if he can heat up and find Calvin/Burleson long with Pettigrew/Scheffler/Best in the middle... I like our chances very much. Our receiving core is MUCH better than Washingtons.

The one area we are hurting is the run game. On both sides of the ball. We can't seem to get lanes open for Jahvid and on defense, our linebackers don't seem to realize they need to fill the gaps made from our D-line. I think this game will be won or lost on the ground.

I'm saying Lions win 24-21

Stafford looks like he hasn't played in 6 weeks. The accuracy and timing just aren't there.
DL is freaking amazing. Love the look of Avril/Hill/Suh up front with VDB roving behind Hill and picking his spot to rush. Secondary playing reasonably well too.

D-line was crazy good today. Stafford was rusty but still had a decent line.

And what the hell was Shanahan doing benching McNabb for sexy rexy late in the game when they could have won? That was idiotic

Our D line definitely won us the game. CJ was huge and Stafford shook off his rust in the 2nd half. Kev Smith impressed me as well. Overall, a solid win.

Why not? It takes more than 5 minutes to get into a rhythm and get on page with your receivers. Its true for any QB

I like that Stafford looks for Johnson when he needs a play. That last TD throw was a special play by special players and told me that Stafford is back and fine.

Line of the day:
Rex Grossman dropped back 9 times. He got sacked once (the fumble TD) and got hit on every other throw but one. That one resulted in an intentional grounding penalty. The Lions rushed only 4 on every single one of those plays. The hits came from 5 different players: Hill, VDB, Avril, Suh, and McBride.

That is dominance, my friends, and it's not going to go away anytime soon.

This is stil a work in progress, but progress is most definitely being made. Take away the awful special teams today and the Skins had nothing.

Tony Scheffler does anyone one know what happen to this guy was he sidelined he did not catch a pass?

No knock on Shaun Hill. But the future of the Lions lies deeply in the relationship between the strong-armed Stafford and the strong-handed Johnson

But you know what unit played really well Sunday - and few will mention? The offensive line,. Any complaints about Jeff Backus or Dominic Raiola today would be misguided.

What a great win. The Lions won at the LOS on both sides of the ball. Our D-line was dominant, but our O-line made plays too and did a good job of keeping Stafford protected despite him holding onto the ball a little to long at times.

We were able to shut down Washingtons running games, including Torain, even before he left the game. That really helped seal the win. Our linebackers did a great job filling the gaps and not allowing penetration. A couple of those plays, Levy just leveled some guys to get to the RBs. Good to have him back, let's hope he stays healthy.

How about Logan and that 71 yd punt return? He could have returned it for a TD, but his momentum was taking him out of bounds after missing the tackle on the sidelines. It did set up a TD for Calvin, so it didn't cost us. Logan is electric. Best returner we've had in awhile.

Stafford looked rusty. Once he gets his timing back, OMG!! His touch was a little off on passes in the game, but once he gets that back... our offense will be even more dangerous and that says alot considering we're the highest scoring offense in the NFC and the 5th highest scoring offense in the NFL. *Although Tennessee, Oakland and San Diego have all played 1 more game than us.

We're 2-1 at home so far this season, with home games remaining against all 3 division rivals and road games against Buffalo and Dallas. No reason we can't win another 3 or 4 games at least. That bad call against Chicago in week one will haunt us if we go on a run to end the season.

Return to Detroit Lions
