Suns rebounding problem.....

Post#1 » by nashill » Wed Oct 27, 2010 12:31 pm

offense? . even dragic still look confused most of the time. nash, hedo and the rest of team will eventually figure it out though, it will come. i know...

defense? surprisingly not bad.

rebounding? it will be worst than last season...

how are we gonna deal on rebounding problem?

First shot defense wasn't terrible, but the Suns gave up a ridiculous amount of rebounds. Portland took nearly 20 more field goal attempts than Phoenix did. It will be tough to win games with a disparity like that...How do we fix it? It'll have to be rebounding by committee. IMO, the most troubling part of this is the realization that our big man, Robin Lopez, still doesn't really rebound like a big man.

Utilising the wing players to help rebound is vital to helping solve our rebounding problem.

On a team no legit rebounding presence, gang rebounding is the only answer. FWIW our team had a +0.7 rebounding differential last season and that is mostly from gang rebounding.

Gang rebounding, certainly - but we were not boxing out well last night, so that hurt us. Also, Lou was a big part of that minimal plus percentage in boards last year

Well let's see... Aldridge grabbed 9 rebounds, so that's unusual, but his 3 offensive boards weren't tha tstrange.

Camby grabbed 11, that's not, nor were the 4 offensive boards he snagged.

Nicolas Batum grabbing 5 offensive boards was EMBARRASSING as Hell. WTF? Wesley Matthews with 2.

That's just pathetic. This is, however, what everyone should have been expecting. This is a giant donut team that was running a SF at the 4 and a mediocre center as far as rebounding goes.

Richardson and Nash both did their job on the glass, but Grant and Hedo both definitely dropped the ball, as did Lopez. Frye did alright, better than his usual (by rate). Warrick was predictably poor on the glass and Josh Childress surprised me by playing, so even though he gave the team almost nothing in his 17 minutes, that was actually pretty cool.

This won't be this bad EVERY game, and some of these guys will get better. It's only game one, and like I said, I was kind of surprised that Childress was playing. He's a pretty good rebounder for a wing, and that will REALLY help. But this team is not built to compete on the glass and it's going to be a running theme, so I'd get used to it early.

Just watching Tor/NY and wow, Reggie Evans is electric. Double figure rebounds in the first half, active hands great defender. I wish we could snag him to possibly fill that PF hole and grab some rebounds.

While I'm very pessimistic towards the upcoming season, it's just the first game of regular season. Plus, they're a(n) (obviously way) better rebounding team.

I mentioned him last night in the Suns game thread, he's one of the better rebounders in the NBA despite other weaknesses. They may value him highly though because of the same reason.

reggie is a smart player, making himself very valuable to the Raps by concentrating on doing what they need and no-one else gives them. I kind of hoped Jones would be that for us, but nope.
We had a guy kind of like that - Lou Armstead? Arnold? Armisen?

Maybe Lawal will be that guy, or Siler. God, I'm a broken record .... a metaphor that not only illustrates my age but a paucity of imagination.

Nash and Lopez, separated by 1 rebound in the box score.

Please never use "Reggie Evans" and "great defender" together. He was guarding the Knicks... even Amare looked kinda crappy most of the night, whether or not Reggie was guarding him. Evans fouls hard and rebounds well, and now that he got chewed out, he's passing out when he gets a board. This makes him a decent roleplayer. As a defender, well, not so much.
