thanks for the encouraging words
the diagnosis sounds awful on its face. After I googled
it, my impression moderated somewhat although it
still can't be good. She's been in semi-decent health
for the last 10 years or so. Who knows what may happen,
at least short term.

My encouragement would be to expect the best, that your mother-in-law will receive the best medical treatment and will fight her best fight. Expect she'll be with you a long time. Expect she'll smile and laugh with your wife and kids for a long time.
jim, I know what you wife means to you just by the reverence you've expressed. That's who's probably taking this the hardest. I don't know what to say but hope that she's comforted.
There's a song that goes "Say what you need to say" .... I think it's "Live Like You are Dying". That's not something to claim at all for you mother-in-law. It is just a reminder to enjoy and celebrate life everyday. Laughter is good medicine. Sometimes, just be in the hospital room. Anything to cherish the times you do have.

Thank you CCJ
my wife will take it hard.
those feelings may be actually made worse by her
guilt due to a long period of difficulty in their relationship

Re: Official Not So Random Thoughts Thread Version 2.2
Tell your wife to forgive herself. She did what she did, felt the way she did, because that's the way she processed things at that time.
Sometimes parents hurt us, don't get us, aren't there for us, or maybe would prefer we lived our lives the way THEY want us too .... OR, sometimes we do our own thing and hurt our parents.
Regardless, the past is the past. We can't get it back and we can't take back the things we said or did.
We can't take back the years of not speaking or barely communicating.
BUT WHAT WE DO HAVE CONTROL OVER IS RIGHT NOW.
Tell your wife how blessed you are for her and the kids and what she's been to you. You know she loves her mom. Guilt is a WASTE OF TIME.
Just me ... maybe you don't say anything, but just give your wife hugs or whatever it is you do to be there for each other.
Now is a season for your wife and her mom to get it right. Thank God my mom and I were always on good terms--she died suddenly, unexpectedly, in 2002. I was at peace with it almost right away. OTOH my dad and I have gone at it for years. But regardless, it is my season to get it right with him.
Easiest way is to forget the past disagreements. No guilt. No shame. Just love now, today. Especially, forgive yourself.

Best wishes to your family dj.
Random thought: I have a bad habit of throwing **** around carelessly and last night I guess I broke my cable remote control. My cable box doesn't have buttons on it to change channels. So I'm stuck with ESPN on permanently and will miss tonight's LeBronze special

It really is amazing how little the local sport radio personalities know about anything other than the Redskins, especially when it comes to the NBA. Other than Czabe's humorous NBA ref conspiracy theories and Sheehan's long-winded takes, nothing on 980 or 106.7 is even remotely insightful (or even correct) when it comes to pro basketball.

Had someone tell me that either Chad Dukes or Lavar said that Adam Morrison should have made the team over Yi because Morrison shot 40% from the 3 line.

I've applied for a User Name change, one that I have been trying to get since January. So if you start seeing my posts turn up under the new name of "AceDegenerate", don't anyone think I am trying to hide my identity.
Change is in effect, just for future notice I'm the user formerly known as Krizko Zero.

It was not on my agenda, until I found that relatives are coming into town for it, so I guess I'll be their guide. Interestingly enough, half of my guests are not Democrats, so maybe it's just an interesting spectacle. Oh well, I like a spectacle.

Re: Official Not So Random Thoughts Thread Version 2.2
My friend wants me to go. A couple of them actually. One of them I believe is driving from Rochester to DC to see it, so I kinda feel obligated to go as well. I said yes, but I'm still not sure if I'm going or not. I'd rather sleep in to be honest. I don't even understand what it's about.
And as for the DC Sports Radio scene, we're not a sports town, hence, we don't have real sports guys on radio shows. The Junkies are awful. They try to become your normal Joe Average, armchair sports guy, etc, but they fail miserably at it because they talk as if they know everything, and everyone but them are wrong. It's why we never get anyone from DC to appear on PTI, or any of those national media sports shows. We suck.

Re: Official Not So Random Thoughts Thread Version 2.2
truthfully i was just wondering what westinyabe would say about the intracontinental mass migration of all sorts of yuppy hipster dbags congregating to show how COOL they are because they're foot soldiers in the army of stewart/colbert.
i'm going because i think it'd be fun to see what kind of yahoos would drive cross-country for a joke rally. a good excuse to maximize my halloween costume and day drink. plus it's slated to be a gorgeous day and it's a good excuse to be outside.

Yes, need to get a sitter though. U.S. politics needs a splash of humor even when the state of the country is sh*tty right now.

Drives me nuts, so fricken sick of football 24/7

I actually thought there might be a market for a hoops radio network for people who want an escape from football. Who's willing to invest?

There's this guy Ted who's trying to create a media empire, and who must be irritated at how little press his hockey team generates. You might tug his sleeve...

Re: Official Not So Random Thoughts Thread Version 2.2
The Capitals get a lot of airtime on the Arrington and Dukes show.
Of course neither Dukes or Arrington know anything about hockey so the air time is usually filled with crap.
I don't have a huge problem with Dukes but it's hard to take a man who got a boob job seriously. His forte is talking about useless nerdy stuff like he did on Big O and Dukes. He really forces the issue when he talks sports. He's also incredibly insecure about his general lack of sports knowledge so whenever someone calls in disagreeing with him he just yells at them for a minute and hangs up.
