What to do with Witten?

Post#1 » by Maritimer » Tue Oct 12, 2010 1:01 pm

So, I have both Witten and Zach Miller on my team. I'm happy to roll with Miller, but I'm not sure what a reasonable trade target for Witten is. There are two guys who really could use a TE in the league, and I could use another RB or WR. Here are some potential targets (leaving out players I know are off limits):

Team 1 - Austin Collie, Lance Moore, Kevin Walter, Chad Ochocinco, Steve Smith North, Dez Bryant, Santonio Holmes
Team 2 - Ahmad Bradshaw, Knowshon Moreno, Brandon Lloyd, Marshawn Lynch, BenJarvus Green-Ellis

Which players on those lists would you NOT trade Witten for? My (hopefully) realistic targets are Smith and Lynch, respectively.

I dont understand why you would ask who you wouldn't target but I would rather answer who I would want for Witten, the 2nd team with Bradshaw/Lloyd, I would take either one for Witten.

Issue with this league is that EVERYONE is trade resistant, so while I might want Llyod, I don't think there's any chance that guy trades him. Also, team #2 has Gonzo, so while he's not desperate for a TE, I'm hoping he sufficiently frustrated to make a trade.

I guess I'm asking for help in assessing fair value, since like I said, people are so scared of making a trade that if I come in with something unreasonable I'm going to get absolutely no where.

I would say Smith of Car if you are willing to wait for his return. Gonzo has only had 1 good game thus far so maybe that team 2 guy might get desperate enough, is he losing or winning? But then again Gonzo would have to really suck and Witten would really need to pick up his game as well, I'm not sure but I think this last Sun was his only huge game thus far?

Sorry, Steve Smith North = Steve Smith of NYG.

Another potential trade partner has emerged. The guy just lost Finley, but I think he's willing to go to the wire and get a guy like Hernandez, Moeaki or Lewis, so I don't think I have a ton of leverage. Still, I told him I was interested in a Witten for a WR swap, and these are his worst three WRs: Crabtree, Garcon, Britt (he also has Marshall and R. Moss).

So, two questions/requests:
1) Rank those 3 players for the rest of the year -- I can make a case for any of them
2) Are any worth Witten?

I'm starting to believe that I won't actually find another taker for Witten, so not making a trade means I'm either letting him go for a waiver wire player like N. Washington or B. Tate (or Hernandez) or keeping him on the bench and using him in weeks when Zach Miller has an unfavorable matchup.

I'm looking for TE advice, post-Romo. I still own both Zach Miller and Jason Witten, and I'm thinking it's time to trade one. I'm actually leaning toward parting with Miller for a few reasons:
1) I should be able to get more for him
2) He has the same bye week as my only QB (Rivers), so if I trade Witten I have to drop two guys for QB/TE
3) I think Witten will actually be fine playing with Kitna, who looked for him a lot in the Giants game.
4) I have a hard time believing Miller is going to be a top 5 TE the rest of the way.

So, I have an offer on the table: his Beanie Wells and Marques Colston for my Zach Miller and Dwayne Bowe.

The feedback I've gotten before is that Beanie doesn't have much value, but I do feel like he's still a good buy low. Colston v. Bowe has me confused. Both had awfully disappointing starts. Bowe has an insanely cake schedule the rest of the way. However, Colston was a top WR last year and Brees finally found him last week -- will that continue?

Here's what he and I have to work with in terms of RB, WR, TEs.

ME
RB - Turner, Best, Lynch, Greene, F. Jackson
WR - Maclin, Welker, Bowe, Smith (CAR)
TE - Miller, Witten

HIM
RB - Gore, Foster, Wells, F. Jones, Brown, Spiller, Snelling
WR - A. Johnson, Colston, M. WIlliams (Sea)
TE - Cooley

I'm open to counteroffer suggestions. I like the Miller for Wells basis. I'd really love to make a big move to get Gore, Foster or Johnson, but he's pretty much made those guys untouchable. He is an Eagles fan, however.... would it be insulting to offer Maclin+Miller for Foster?

EDIT - Nevermind. Deal done.

The worst part? I played that guys this week, and he's going to demolish me (part Bowe, part me benching Welker for Burleson). I'm now going to be in a tie for the last playoff spot with one week to go...
