Tell me more about Gordon Hayward

Post#1 » by kd35sneighbor » Wed Oct 27, 2010 1:31 pm

I chose a rookie that I'm gonna like the whole year and it is Gordon Hayward. I'm hoping for him to be successful and be a great player one day. Can you guys tell me more about him? I want to know everything, from little interesting facts to commonly known ones. Also, does he have an official site?

Anybody have interview transcripts? Has Gordon spoken about what player he wants to be like or what his game is like?

I viewed Gordon's twitter and I came across this tweet:

StarCraft II comes out tonight at midnight! Who's going to get it??

Now I'm an even BIGGER fan of his.

Gordon is kind of a unique player...

- He's a college 4 that is going to have to move to the wing.

- David Thorpe of ESPN's Scouts Inc. says that he believes Gordon's long term future is at the 2. If he has the agility, athleticism and handle to pull that off, his size advantage will make him a real force at the position.

- He has a twin sister

- He grew up idolizing Reggie Miller. As a kid he played PG. Grew something like 14 inches between his freshman and senior seasons. Hence the guard's handle in the college PF's body.

- He's a model of efficiency. Even as a green, 20 year old rookie he doesn't force bad shots, made stupid passes or try things that are beyond his means. As a result, he rarely does anything spectacular, either.

- He has a very high bball IQ, and has impressed Sloan to the point that he conceded in pre season that the rookie would be part of the regular rotation. That's something that I can only remember happening with Deron Williams.

That's all off the top of my head. I'll add more when I think of it.

Nice summary, Erudite.

Hayward will probably spend his first year or two being a perfect glue-guy for the Jazz. That = smart passes, good decision maker, adequate defender, and end-of-game free-throw shooter. The Jazz are a perfect team for him because he won't be under a lot of pressure to produce. But he's talented enough to have plenty of remarkable games as a rookie.

Given more experience & confidence, he may turn out to be a much more able version of Jeff Hornacek. Not so much in the crazy shot department, but rather in his ability make plays as a non-PG in the Jazz system.

I'll tell you one thing about the kid; he's no push-over. Dude competed last night. Even though his shot was was off all night, I loved what I saw. He's a tough, if inexperienced defender, he goes after rebounds like Millsap Lite, and he makes good decisions with the ball.

What exactly are you looking for?

If you want personal information, his dad helped him find an apartment and buy a car. He's staying with him for a few months, until Gordon's settled in. They take turns making dinner.

He's humble, seems to have a good sense of humor, and doesn't let Deron get away with being a whiny little bitch.

I try not to do the typical white guy to white guy comparisons but he looks like he could be a mike miller type player in the future. He has about average if not a little better end to end speed but hes not very quick at all with his actions nor is his wingspan very good. Hes gonna struggle defensively, attacking the basket in traffic and seperating from smart defenders. He does compensate a little for those ineffenciencies by playing smart and calculating but he wont solve the problem we have at guarding wings especially the 2 guard position. He also should be able to stroke it from 3 at a good rate in the future once he gets stronger which will be his most useful asset.

If the jazz dont trade him like they have their other first round picks, I could see him developing into a good six man or a fringe starter but nothing more. Not to be negative but I was pretty dissapointed when the jazz picked him at #9 and dont feel a bit better about it but, he still has enough time to change minds.

Reggie Miller is a better comparison.

He is one of the best defenders on the team.
