Lions Claim CB Brandon McDonald

Post#1 » by TSE » Wed Oct 27, 2010 9:27 pm

Second time he was cut this year, this time by the Cardinals. They promoted a UDFA CB. McDonald was a 5th rounder in 2007, but he has started 2 dozen games and made 8 INTs and 37 PDs, not too shabby. The Lions also have to subtract a player to make room for him and it hasn't been announced yet who we will lose. My guess is Shaun Hill because of his injury in the last game, but if not him maybe Nathan Vasher as he is the oldest CB on the team. We have 3 Cs, so could also be Cody Wallace or Dylan Gandy, and we have lots of LBs on the roster so perhaps it could be Vinny Circiu.

McDonald is terrible except one great game he had two years ago for Cleveland. They tried everything with him to make him work out but he's just not aware enough of what is going on around him and he can't tackle to save his life. I'm guessing this one is a bone thrown to his agent, who happens to represent some current Lions who just might have their hands out

i think this is the move:
ALLEN PARK - The Detroit Lions have not confirmed it, but a league source said the team has placed linebacker Zack Follett on the injured reserve list today and he'll be lost for the rest of the season.

One great game by a CB is plenty good enough to earn the last CB spot on our roster!

The Lions have already salvaged one underachieving cornerback's career this season, and like Alphonso Smith, it's not talent that McDonald lacks. The former Memphis Tiger could contribute as a reserve corner later in the year.

Brandon McDonald has been cut by the Browns, the cornerback announced on his Twitter account. McDonald started 27 of 48 games the past three seasons. He lost his job on a few occasions, due to breakdowns in coverage and the running game, but kept regaining it. He co-led the Browns in 2008 with five interceptions. McDonald got into hot water this summer when he made offensive remarks in a Tweet regarding the Bengals' acquisition of receiver Terrell Owens.

I don't know much about McDonald as a player, so I don't know what the Lions have with him. I am wonderign why we keep going after corners when linebackers are a much more pressing need right now. At least Houston, Smith and Wade are productive. At linebacker we have Peterson and.....

Bring in whats available. Plus the Lions have 1 stinking win, and this kid is around 25. No risk, possible reward.

Also, what linebackers are available?

You can always find current Practice Squad rosters at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cu ... am_rosters

Slade Norris for example was a 4th round pick in 2009. I'd rather have guys like that than vets like Landon Johnson or VInny Circiu. We could replace 10 worthless players on our roster right now to get 10 prospects to try out, and who knows, maybe one blossoms into a young valuable keeper. They are all cheap, beats paying big money to other guys that are just rentals for while we are losing. If we were in SB contention then maybe it would make sense to have some experience on the team, but I don't see the value in many of our players being here, so they should have been trade scrapped so that we could get something for them plus pickup all these freeroll players. And if guys like Landon Johnson aren't good enough to get even a penny of value from another team, then what does that say about keeping him on our roster? If players are worth ZERO to ALL 31 other teams, then they shouldn't be here in the first place. Either trade the bums or cut the bums, and take a chance to find more players that can be useful for the future. This is why the Lions are so bad, is that we have neglected trading and using the wire every year since I've been alive, including this year, although this year isn't as bad, at least we picked up a few decent gambles like Alphonso. But still we are overly irresponsible as a team in going the extra mile to turn this team around, and we could have saved our owner a lot of payroll money to continuously lose games. So we don't even fail in a cost effective manner, it's lunacy.

And what else do we get for playing like this? Oh well when our #1 draft pick comes back for basically his first full game that we have been DYING to see him, it's blacked out on TV. What a crock.
