Well, it seems that my team, Partizan Belgrade, is about to sign Nathan Jawai.

Is there anything that you could tell me about him? His strengths/weaknesses etc.? How do you think his game would translate to Europe?

I think the word to think of here is "agile". Seldom do you see such nimble footwork from a man his size who can neither jump nor dunk.

Unfortunately his weaknesses outweigh his strengths, and that's putting it lightly. But you'll get a BIG body in the paint, who crashes the boards pretty well. As mentioned, his ball handling in general is pretty awful and he lumbers around the post a lot. But keep us (me) updated, we're all (i'm) interested in his progress in Europe.

Well, he signed a one-year contract today, so here goes nothing
I think his size alone will allow him to put up decent stats in Europe, there aren't a lot of centers in Europe with similar characteristics (only Big Sofo comes to mind at the moment).

There's also a funny Partizan - Panathinaikos - Minnesota circle going on in a last couple of seasons: Pekovic played for Partizan before he signed for PAO, and now he's in Minnesota. PAO replaced him with Aleks Maric, who also played in Partizan. And Partizan replaced Maric with Jawai, who played for Minnesota.
And then the fact that both Maric and Jawai are Australian... O.o

To me, hes been disappointing. He has natural talent, and runs the floor well for a bloke who is 300 pounds.
Maybe he didnt want it enough though. When he was drafted he was abt 250/60 (if you check his nba prfile from teh Raps he looks pretty lean). If he lost 30 pounds, he might be more appealing to clubs, but they have no use for a fat bloke who cant drop weight, no matter what the upside might be.

Well, I remember someone (southern wolf?) asking for updates on Jawai in Euroleague. Here are his stats from the game on Wednesday vs Khimki (Partizan won 72-68, btw):

28 mins, 15 points (7/12 for 2), 8 boards (2 off, 6 def), 2 blocks, 2 assists, 3 fouls, index ranking 24 (highest on both teams). Not too shabby...

His biggest strength is definitely his... well, strength He just overpowers almost anyone who is guarding him. He also has surprisingly good footwork and back-to-the-basket technique... He slimmed down quite a bit (definitely not at 300 lbs anymore, 270 max) so I guess it helped his game...

He should do well over there. It's a better fit for his style, he can be more physical and should be able to control the paint. He's a borderline NBA player whose skills will be show better over there. I doubt there's more than 10 centers in Europe better than him.
