1080 the fan - Marc Stein rumor

Post#1 » by Mr Odd » Fri Oct 29, 2010 10:32 pm

1080 on a sports update said that Marc Stein is reporting
a rumor that a 3 team deal is being worked out that has
Melo in it & the Blazers are one of the teams BUT Melo
would NOT end up here. Thats all they said. What kind
of BS is that!? LOL Its almost not even worth posting but.. .

Hmmm well Dre and Joel are players that would make sense from a contractual perceptive. It seemed like one of Denver's biggest hangups in a Melo deal was taking back long term salary. Only thing is neither PG or C spot are a position of strength.

It would be nice to know who the 3rd team is so we could get an idea what Portland would get back.

I think they touched on it just now on the RealGM wiretap.

And on the radio they just added that if its not the Knicks
it will be the Nets.

Hmm.. .

The Nuggets have registered strong interest in Blazers swingman Nicolas Batum, according to ESPN.com, but Portland has declared him off-limits.

The Knicks are reportedly working to involve Portland in a deal that would bring Carmelo Anthony to New York (they at least need a first-round draft pick), but nothing has come of it so far.

Hahahahaha. If they want Batum, they can't have him... If Batum's included, Billups would have to be coming back to Portland...

Billups? We're not trading Batum and especially not for a PG who's over the hill.

trading Batum would make it hard to be a Blazers fan.

The ONLY way Denver gets Batum is if we get Carmelo WITH an extension. If Anthony won't come here, then they won't get him. That simple.

They're dreaming if they think we'll give them Batum for freaking well-over-30 Billups.

It's pretty clear that if the Nuggets trade Melo they want to be under the luxury tax after the trade. That means the Nuggets have to shed $11.8 million in salary in the trade. So, if a trade is made, the Nuggets probably aren't going to get much for Melo since not many teams can help relieve the Nuggets of that large a salary burden.

The Nuggets might consider a multiplayer deal that includes Billups since they will be a losing team after trading Melo. The reason they might part with Billips is it would widen the list of teams they can trade Melo to and get under the luxury threshold. And, they can lose the final year and $14 million on Billups contract without paying the $3.7 million guaranteed portion. Contrary to what people say, Billups would love to play in any city that is likely to pay him the final $14 million on his contract.

Knicks want Melo
Nuggets want a good return for Melo
Blazers have what Nuggets want
Blazers are possibly interested in Billups
Nuggets trying to get best return possible

The Nuggets aren't going to get any good player for Melo or Billups if they also want to shed $11.8 million in salary.

Side-bar .....

Melo is an idiot for not wanting to play for the Blazers. Portland and Denver would probably make a Batum for Melo trade today if he'd be willing to sign an extension in Portland. The Blazers don't have to gut their roster for him and they'd have a better roster than any of the teams he's listed as wanting to goto. But he's obsessed with going to a big-city, so f*** him.

They could get some expiring contracts along with a nice young player if they could trade Melo to any team they want to. But with Melo's demands of being trading to either NY or Chicago and refusing to sign extensions with any teams other than those two, that's what will cause them to not be able to get good return for him.

Melo has basically handcuffed the Nuggets.

there's nothing I see on either the Nets or the Nuggets that would warrant giving up Batum. And sure as hell there's nothing on the Knicks

and since Melo has made it pretty clear that he's not going to re-sign with Denver, I'd say their leverage is pretty small, especially with a team like the Nets that may have almost as much trouble holding on to Melo as Denver. So I can't see NJ letting go of too much in the way of assets here

My guess is that Denver probably covets that New Orleans draft pick and either NJ or NY is trying to figure a way to get that routed to Denver. And Maybe one of Portland's expiring contracts, although I think the Blazers place a pretty high value on both Przybilla and Miller

Maybe the Blazers are trying squeeze Anthony Randolph from the knicks for that first

The Wizards were able to shed alot of salary and gave up players less talented. 11.8 is a major hole though.

Our draft pick and the one from NO, the trade exemption, plus expiring contracts will be what is moved. Batum is going no where since Melo would probably not agree to an extension with us.

Im not sure I want anyone on Denver, NJ or NY.
Favors?? But not sure that makes sense since we
wouldnt be trading away a PF/C for him, we would
probably be trading Batum then we would have a
hole at the SF. Plus Favors is a rookie and youre
not sure if he will pan out, even tho I think if he
does pan out he will be worth a lot more then
what Batum can/could do. And it cant be Harris,
I dont believe Harris is much of a upgrade over Dre.

Man, Melo in a Blazers uniform =

My roommate told me (so I don't have an official source) that a big reason he wants to go to those big cities is his wife. She's on TV, and wants to go to a place that could help her career. Dunno if true, but it makes sense to me.

I think the most logical target for Portland is Chauncey Billups.

I think it is unlikely anything happens.

I've heard that about his wife too. It doesn't sound too far fetched. All this talk about him wanting to leave Denver all came out right around the time he got married.
