Parker Signs Extension

SAN ANTONIO -- Spurs guard Tony Parker has signed a multi-year extension, preserving San Antonio's Big Three at least through next season.

The Spurs announced the deal with their star point guard on Saturday. Terms were not disclosed.

Parker entered the season in the final year of his contract, and it was uncertain whether the Spurs would make him an offer. The former all-star had repeatedly said he wanted to stay in San Antonio.

San Antonio's core of Parker, Duncan and Manu Ginobili is now set through next season, the final year of Duncan's current contract.

No details on the money yet. But i'm glad to see he signed an extension this early on in the season. Now we don't have to deal with all the BS trade talk anymore.

4 years 50 million is whats being reported on TP's website. If thats true that's a steal of a deal for us.

Now we can stop with the Parker rumors. I'm glad we sign him. If that deal is true, then hell yeah we got a steal. Anybody remember how much Manu got last year? Wasn't it a 3 year 39 mil deal? 4 year 50 mil deal is less than Manu got annually. I would think Parker being younger and all gets paid more than Manu.

I am really glad I won't have to fear seeing Tony go elsewhere as a free agent next summer. I don't see why we should trade George Hill. Having 3 good guards to share the minutes is not a depth problem or anything, it's a must in this league.

Great deal for us. I like how Pop was talking about Tony's character. He really is a class act. Our organization in general is top notch. I am glad Tony got paid and we didn't try to low ball him.

I really don't see us parting with Hill or Blair anytime soon either. Our club builds from the ground up. We groom players just the way we want them.

Its seems that they give out great contracts to great players and give horrible contracts to bums like RJ and Bonner.

If we didn't restructure RJ's contract, that means no Splitter. Plus after 2 games, Jefferson is arguably our most consistent and productive player. Only 2 games thou. Here's hoping tomorrow is 3 in a row. We scream for consistency out of Jefferson last year.

RJ has been great so far. He's aggressive offensively, more so than at any point last season. Maybe he needed a full season under his belt before he got comfortable in the system. Early days of course, but I'm hopeful he can be productive this season.

George Hill trade threats!!
It was be funny how, in all Tony Parker trade threats Spurs were getting average players. Now, it would be funny to see in George Hill threats that we are going to get an all-star material.. that is how f*cked up people brains are..lol

I like the Spurs but don't get to watch more than 20-25 games a year. Personally I think Parker's game the last two years has declined a lot from where he was. I understand he's been hurt some but I don't think it was a great contract for the Spurs. I have no problem with it but I think they overpaid. This will provide the Spurs the opportunity to trade him in a couple of years.

However RJ's contract could only make sense if the Spurs had an informal agreement with the agent. If not, then the Spurs could have an d should have done much better than sign Jefferson.

Knicks, Nets or other team would've offered Parker almost a MAX deal, so it is easily a steal. He is a great player, not in decline cause he is young and experienced.

RJ is a good proven player, that have a "bad" year in terms of not being consistent, but they have high hopes on him for this year. Also, Spurs didn't have a Small forward in their roster, so Spurs needed him that much. Everybody knows they have an agreement in that "opt out" thing..

Your too much of a homer if you believe anybody would give Tony Parker a max contract. I think the Spurs front office has done an amazing job over the years but I also think they did this to make Parker more tradeable in a couple of years when Duncan is gone. Also it has been three years since Jefferson could be considered a quality player. If the Spurs did not have a verbal agreement/understanding with Jefferson's agent, then it was stupid to sign him. I understand the value of RJ opting out however I do believe the Spurs made Jefferson or his agent believe they wanted to extend him because they are too smart to sign him if there was no prior "understanding". I also think the Spurs are too smart to provide any evidence of wrongdoing to the NBA so that supports the case that the Spurs front office is excellent. I'm sure they feel they were entitled since the league let Gasol go to the Lakers three years ago.

Me believing that Parker could have almost a Max deal in another team is because a player like Joe Johnson did it or because Rashard Lewis is the second best paid in this league. Some teams are desperate to have an all star caliber player and they would do everything they can to achieved it. Also, a PG is a very needed position for "bad" teams..
I'm not saying Parker is worth the MAX, just saying a desperate team like the Nets would've paid him that much.
When RJ opted out, Spurs have very little money in their salary cap to get another at least decent SF, so, maybe that money for RJ is kind of an overpaid player, but in the situation Spurs were this summer, that was the best move they can make. They kept a good SF and have the posibility to add the best center of Europe and still being under the luxury tax. Smart move IMO.
