ORL-PHI-MIN trade piece

Post#1 » by shrink » Sun Oct 31, 2010 3:39 pm

I was discussing someone else's trade over on the TB, and I was very curious if MIN fans would be interested in a deal like this on December 15th?

MIN GIVES: Brewer + Telfair
MIN GETS: Kapono (exp) + Fran Vazquez

Financially it's a wash. Kapono is nearly value-less on the court .. he's just an expiring, and we might even buy him out. Brewer (and Telfair to some extent) can be productive on the court, so it may cost us a few wins. However, we're not playing for this year, and while its hard to predict right now, I think its unlikely we'll match the highest offer another team gives Corey Brewer next summer, since acquiring Beasley, Wes Johnson and Martell Webster. It seems a waste to lose him for nothing. However, perhaps he has more trade value than this?

Would the chance at Fran Vazquez be enough incentive for you to move Brewer in six weeks?

Orl giggles and then politely asks that you piss off. They get hosed in that one. If it's sure that Fran is coming to the NBA, then he has a lot of value.
Will you fools ever realize that when the cameras are on and the microphones are hot, they are Lying to you! Lying to illicit a prescribed reaction, to easier manipulate you.

I think this is part of a bigger deal Shrink has been discussing with people on the tb

Yes - this is why I called it a "trade piece" and included Kapono who plays in PHI and Fran who plays in ORL.

And its definitely not sure that Fran is coming to the NBA .. and I would even say its not even "probable."

The small-town spanish kid got one look at the big cities in the USA and fled at draft time, and most likely won't be coming to the NBA. He may have mentioned an interest simply because he's up for a new contract for Barca, and wants a better offer. However, since we've got Rubio's rights, we have a slightly better chance of getting both here if they could come over together.

Incidentally, ORL fans are mixed on whether they'd trade Brewer for Fran. When loboishome posted that straight up swap, it elicited only positive comments:

Cigamodnalro wrote:Minnesota has a million wings. I'd swap Fransexual for Corey Brewer faster than I'd wifeswap with Ryan Reynolds.

On the Trade Board, one ORL fan questioned the deal pretty severely, saying ORL is way too crowded at the wings, and said other ORL fans are mistaken because they either love Florida's Brewer, or hate Fran Vazquez.

I do this trade all day long and twice on Sunday. There's no upside in my opinion to either Brewer or Telfair and Fran can play the game. I'm not sure what our chances are of landing him, but this is a gamble I would be willing to take.

I'm only quoting you because I really like that your name is still fire McHale. He has been gone for awhile, but I would be down with you leaving that name forever, just so that anyone who considers hiring him (as a GM especially) remembers that we in MN still can't forget him.

Not having to watch Corey Brewer attempt to dribble a basketball anymore would be enough incentive.
If Webster comes back healthy Brewer doesn't deserve much PT, and I don't want to tempt KuRon Rambishire to play "scrappy" Corey Punto over Wes "The Warden" Johnson. (For his lockdown D)

What is your larger trade scenario? A VC/Iggy swap, Gortat or Bass to Philly?

I like Brewer, he doesn't have emo moments like the other guys on the team, plays w/ high energy, and Wes says he's been helping him out a lot. We need the Brewer/Tolliver/Flynn trio to make sure Darko, Love, and Beasley don't start forming a sad panda clique within the team

I said yes to this originally, but the more I watch this team , the more I see Brewer as being an important player. He comes in off the bech, hustles his a$$ off, scores a few dramatic (and thus emotional) baskets, and is visibly happy. And didn't somebody post a few days ago that he is leading the league in steals/48?

I bet we keep him here.

Neither Brewer or Telfair will be on this team next season so if there is any chance Fran comes over, yeah I do it. I'm not even sure Brewer would be seeing minutes this season if Webster and Ellington didn't get hurt.

Can you imagine the field day people would have if Rubio and Fran refused to come over...yeesh.

No I would not do that.

Keep Brewer until the end of the season if thats what we would get.

No more euro-scrubs!
