My Falcons Board
(I am a draft for need kind of guy so I left out the 2 talented DE since that is not a "need.")
1.Jake Long
2. Dorsey
3. Ellis
Or bust !
With the injury to our starting DT coming down the stairs and a depth chart made out of practice squad guys.... DT is now just as big of a need as LT.
Does anyone know anything about the depth of the DT and T class in the draft ? Will there be any talent left at those 2 positions for our two 2nd round picks ?
It seems their will be plenty of QBs around in the 2nd and history shows that elite LTs and DTs normally come early in the 1st round and seldom come from later rounds when compared to other positions.
I am sorry but I would rather have Andre Woodson or Matt Stafford then Matt Ryan. Matt Ryan was just an average college QB on a low scoring and over achieving team. My eyes tell me Matt Stafford has twice the potential as a NFL QB then Matt Ryan has. Stafford has the stronger arm and made better decisions vs. tougher competition. Ryan's 19 interceptions vs. ACC defences would equate to 25 interceptions vs. more talented and faster SEC defences.
I don't see what seperates Ryan from:
Flynn, Booty, Woodson, Ainge, Henne, or Flacco (I would personally roll the dice on Flacco or try to improve Woodson's mechanics as 2nd round picks). Of course take Brohm if he falls to the 2nd but that is doubtful.
1. Ryans arm strength is no better then theres is
2. Ryan's decision making is poor, he forces too much, 19 interceptions.
Ryan's fans best defense seems to be saying Ryan has "it." I am sorry but if this "it" does not include better then average arm strength and does include 19 interceptions in the ACC then I don't see any positive "it" to make this a guy a top #3 pick.
What am I missing about Ryan besides one come from behind win vs. V. Tech ? He seems to be an over achiever at the college level. Where is Ryan's potential to be great in the NFL ?

Boston College's Ryan throws for scouts
Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan and dozens of other pro hopefuls worked out for NFL scouts and personnel staff on Tuesday, running sprints and throwing and catching passes at the school's first-ever Pro Day.
Ryan threw 52 passes, completing 48, with three drops and one that was overthrown. He did not do any running, opting instead to let his times stand from last month's NFL combine in Indianapolis.
Ryan is expected to be the first quarterback taken in next month's NFL draft, projected to be in the top 10 and perhaps even the first overall pick. Kansas City coach Herm Edwards was among those who watched Ryan work out; the Chiefs pick fifth overall.
Among the other BC players taking part in Pro Day were offensive lineman Gosder Cherilus, linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar and safety Jamie Silva. Players from area schools including UMass, Harvard, Bentley, Northeastern, Holy Cross and St. Francis also worked out.

The skill set Ryan has? I guess Dimitroff is in love with the fact that he will be throwing ints all day with our crappy line since he decided to trade up and give away two first rounders in order to reach for an ot, could have had two in the 2nd if we wanted to.

I wanted to see us take care of another hole, as I don't exactly support Ryan, but I'm trying to think as positive as possible about his future. At this point, I hope we don't mess things up for the rest of the draft, because we really need to file away to fill holes, so I hope Dimitroff knows what he's doing.
Sad Falcon fan at the moment.

Chris Redman and Joey Harrington. That would be my main reason to take Matt Ryan.
But I really don't like the idea of taking a high QB this soon in the rebuilding process, because he will be constantly compared with Vick and he doesn't have enough of a line to protect him.
With Atlanta being tied for 7th overall in sacks allowed, I don't know if I would sacrifice my no.3 overall pick right away.

Do you guys think this franchise can turn around with one draft? I certainly don't. You have to realize that it will take more than a year to completely rebuild this squad. This team had the 3rd pick and Matt Ryan was a great pick considering he was the best QB prospect out of the draft. Flacco and Brohm are heads and shoulders below what Matt Ryan can offer to this team.

This draft had solid pospects to help build the team. IMO, we took a step forward, but it wasn't as big as it good have been.
