While Prokhorov half-jokes about the "Russian Surprise Model" for franchise building he's about to unleash, he asks of Nets fans only this:
"Be patient. Support our team. We will win for sure. And trust me: next season will be completely different."

Nets introduce free agents, Prokhorov Q&A Pt. II »
By Stefan Bondy
The free agents were introduced today at the practice facility, and below are brief points about the press event before I finish the Q & A with Prokhorov:
• All of them listed Avery as one of main reasons they came to the Nets. The coach called each one individually and convinced them to sign with the 12-win team. He’s really taken a prominent role in sculpting this organization, and I suspect he will be even more prominent once Thorn is out of the picture. At least we know who to praise or blame.
• Anthony Morrow went from being undrafted to signing an eight-figure deal. The guy is happy. You just hope he’s not complacent.
• Farmar wants to prove he’s a starting point guard in the NBA and felt he didn’t get that opportunity in L.A. as a backup in the triangle offense.
• Johnson said Damion Jones was the best player in summer league. (I was thinking T-Will).
• Since the Nets aren’t going to find a starting power forward through free agency and don’t want to trade for a player who’ll cut deep into the salary cap, it looks like it’s going to be a while until that player is acquired.
Prokhorov Q&A Pt. II
Q: How closely are you going to monitor the luxury tax?
The salary cap and luxury tax are the limits. And if you have a smart strategy, there is no difference. I feel more or less relaxed to pass the luxury tax limit it needs to be really smart. You need to be a championship contender in order to do that. For example, the Celtics. It was done smart.
Q: So your following the Celtics model with this team?
No. It’s the Russian surprise model. We need to hide the Russian element of surprise.
Q: Any teams or management you admire or would like to emulate?
Same comment. Some people like procedure. I like the result. I can admire the result. You can talk for hours about why you were close to the title because I’m not to blame, etc. We need to show result. It doesn’t matter if its sports or business.
Q: Did you watch any summer league games?
A: On Russian TV, we have a live show and I watched two games.
Q: What do you think of Favors?
A: Great potential. But we are really upset because next week he’ll be 19 years old (sarcasm).
Q: Is he too young to start?
A: I think in a year at the end of the next season he probably will. He just needs some muscles.
Q: Do you agree you need a new starting power forward now?
A: We’re looking for some opportunities. Right now I think we’re strong enough.
Q: Can you play there?
A: Power forward? I’m too old for this. And I don’t like the salary of the players. I can make more in business.
Q: When are you going back to Russia?
A: I have a lot of jobs to do. I had to postpone a lot of deals. NBA is to blame. That’s why before my vacation I will work hard.
Q: Was Plan B worked out before the LeBron meetings and the big free agent meetings?
I never play on one track.

I like Prokhorov more every time he speaks. I believe in what he says an I hope he signed the right guys. My only worry is that he won't focus fully on the Nets because he's busy making so much other money.

So whats the likelyhood of Thorn knowing his days were numbered...or basically knowing he was going to lose control of basketball operations, with the idea of having to groom others which Mik was going to bring in down the road in a couple of years, say when we make the jump to Brooklyn, ect...

I really don't know. If there was any animosity between the two I could never detect it. My guess is that Thorn didn't want to take a paycut so he moved on. Can't say whether or not that was the case until details regarding what he's getting paid in Philly are released...

A lot of front office types are like NBA players in regards to their ego. My guess is that Thorn doesn't need the extra money but he felt insulted by the offer. Especially if it was a hard offer with little room for negotiation.

I stated this in the "Thorn's a rival now" thread but I really think Thorn didn't like the fact that Avery was power hungry. The dude is 69 years old and waited for this summer to come. We didn't land a superstar and Avery comes in and has more power in the front office than Thorn thought...Perfect time for Thorn to move on from the Nets. He really has done everything he could. I mean 10 years! The guy probably wants one more challenge before calling it quits and HE probably wants to have the strongest opinion in the front office like he was used to. He's definitely going to have that in Philly with Stefanski as GM.

Mikhail Prokhorov via Netsdaily:
Q: Are you planning on going beyond the luxury tax line?
A: These are two different concepts - team generating money and whether or not I'm paying luxury tax. Many things can change with the new CBA. But am I not expecting to go over the cap.
Q: What is your strategy for building a championship team?
A: You can become a champion quickly - that's our plan A, or you can build one gradually, that's our plan B. Plan A implies getting one or two superstars - Lebron, Wade and/or Bosh. Also, from all the players who became agents, we were only interested in them. We started realizing this strategy early - clearing salaries. But even on July 3, I had an understanding that we needed to go for plan B - slowly, through five years of building a new team. In the current stage of the plan, we're taking "not bad" players, whom we can later trade. For example, someone like Amare Stoudemire, who went to play for the Knicks, would be very difficult to trade later - he makes $17 million. We want flexibility - we want strong players, but those that you can call "tradeable assets". This is why right now we're calmly executing our five-year plan. If we just needed a team that was one of the best five, the strategy would have been much simpler, but we wanted a championship team.

This looks fantastic. I don't about you guys, but i love it. Gl in the new season, Avery is my favourite coach, i hope he'll build a great team in the next 3-4 years.

Not as ugly as a David Garrard fade route...

Why would a QB be running a route?

Lol, of course I meant the throw, but I'm pretty sure Speedy knew that.
