Of our soon-to-be free agents, which one...

Post#1 » by chube » Sun Oct 31, 2010 8:04 pm

Would you mind if Indy were to re-sign/keep any of them going forward?

Our to-be free agents - Mike Dunleavy, T.J. Ford, Jeff Foster, Solomon Jones, Josh McRoberts.

To me, T.J. and McBob might be worth re-signing. McBob is an energy guy who's doing okay as a starter but would love to see that energy and hustle off the bench if we got an upgrade at the 4 (especially since he can play the 5 if need be.) Ford might be worth re-signing but at nowhere near the price of $8.5 million he's making right now. He's quick and for the most part things have gone smoothly with him in the lineup, although I'm still interested to see how A.J. Price would do in quality time as a backup.

In my opinion, Dunleavy can walk, Solo can sprint, and Foster - gotta love the guy as a lifelong Pacer and does hustle when he's in there, but that seems to be the problem anymore: when he's in there. Mileage and injuries have caught up with him. If they didn't already have money tied up in Posey, Rush, Dahntay and George, I think Dunleavy might be worth keeping at a cheaper scale, but I think we can recoup his lost production between those guys and the new quality of minutes they'd each be likely to get.

You?

We're going to need to pay McBob more if we want him to stay.

Solo can leave.

As for the rest, I'd like to see who we draft before making those decisions.

In a contract year the best thing is we can have up to the entire season (assuming we don't re-sign them earlier) to evaluate or at the least half a season.
My judgement from past performance is
Solo - let him walk
Foster - re-sign if he is relatively healthy and comes cheap
Mikey D - re-sigin if he comes at a good price
TJ - see if we can trade him at the deadline if not, let him walk as we have Darren, AJ and Lance

I think McBob would like to stay, even he can get bigger contract from other teams.

Both T.J. and Mikey D has the possibility to be traded before the deadline if young players like George and A.J. improved quickly.

Foster could stay with cheap contract as a mentor of our young bigs or he might back to one of Texas team.

But I think before we sign any free agents next summer, it is more important to get a new head coach or new GM and then consider which kind of players should stay.

I agree with the 'hometown' factor for McBob.
If George continues to develop well and Rush has got his head right after the suspension and the last minute option we might be able to land something at the deadline for Dunleavy, maybe try to get some picks as part of it to possibly help facilitate a sign-and-trade at the end of the season since presumably Dunleavy goes to a team that can't give us a good pick back in return anyway.

Obviously we keep McRoberts. Even if someone else is the starter, are you gonna tell me you don't want to have him coming in off the bench?

If Foster want to stay with the Pacers, then why not keep him and let him finish his career here? Maybe I just like the idea of him as the link between the glory days and this new, young team. Even if he isn't as productive on the court anymore, I think he's a good veteran to have in your locker room.

I like Dunleavy and wouldn't mind if we kept him at a reduced rate, especially since he looks to be back to his 07-08 form.

TJ can leave, we have DC now and I'm confident in AJ as the backup. TJ still makes too many bad decisions or just doesn't even look to pass. Our offense looks dysfunctional with TJ compared to DC. Hopefully we can trade him before the deadline for another young player.

No reason to keep any of them. Lets use our space to bring in good talented players to fill the voids, not resign the bums that created the voids in the first place.

If i had to pick one, it would surprisingly be T.J., of course at a very cheap price to be the third pg. Mcbob has no value to a good team, if our team hadnt been so starved of enthusiastic play people wouldnt be overrating him. Dunleavy would be behind George/Granger/Rush/ideally Lance. Foster is done.

LOL at the guy above me who wants to bring everyone back if possible, what roster spots would we have to fill then after the draft? All of that cap space to bring in a 3rd pg to replace TJ and a backup C?? Foster's NBA career is finished. You cant have both hansblowgh and mcbob playing a decent amount of minutes and expect to compete. inb4thepsychotfanboyscomerollingin.

Its amazing how consistent mediocrity severely lowers standards over time.

Psycho T fan here :D

I want to bring back McRoberts, Hansbrough, and maybe Ford if Price and Stephenson haven't proved to be reliable back-ups yet.

McBob and Psycho can't co-exist IMO. Duke and UNC guy fighting for same spot. Totally different personalities and people. I doubt it if those two get along.

Pacers obviously have Ford/Dunleavy/S. Jones/Foster/McRoberts/Price/D. Jones all as possible trading pieces, so eventually something is probably going to happen. I think Dahntay Jones has to go first. If we're shopping anybody, it should be him. However, the more we win, the less a trade becomes part of Larry's thinking process.

from all I've heard McBob and PsychoT are good friends and team players. I think they'll both be here for a long time.

I tend to think that Dunleavy will eventually prove worthy of a new contract somewhere under what he's been getting but over the MLE.

TJ has the chance to prove himself worthy of something in the same range but it is a long season. a lot depends upon Lance there. if by the end of the year, he's learned enough to earn a spot on the active roster as a combo guard, I don't see a need for TJ.

Solo is more of a 4 than a 5 and our pressing need is a backup 5. it's early but Foster hasn't been healthy enough to grab that role. if it is simply a rehab issue, I'll breathe a big sigh of relief. Jeff deserves to retire as a Pacer if that is his choice. perhaps Stanko Barac will be ready for a shot next year. I don't think the draft helps here as a rookie center is not the need.

It's way too early to tell i think. I mean, if Brandon Rush plays well and Paul George continues to develop, i don't think there will be any argument to re-sign Mike Dunleavy, despite whatever stats he gets this season. A lot can change, i can argue to try to re-sign all of our guys (minus Solo) or i could argue to not to bring back any of these guys. One good year doesn't warrant a extension (TJ Ford). He's been a headache and a problem, and in his contract year, he plays well. Good for him, because his value increases, but also good for us because we get some much needed production out of him. But, we got to be smart and let the guy walk. Or, if opportunity presents itself (trade him while his value is high)

IMO he is one of the best 3 centers in Europe right now!
Right now he is playing euroleague against Maccabi Tel-Aviv, a european Powerhouse also:

18 PTS (8-11 FG, 2-2 FT)
13 RBS
4 BLK
3 STL

last game in the Spanish League vs. Barcelona:

15 PTS + 13 RBS + 4 BLK - 3 AST

game before:

17 PTS + 11 RBS + 3 AST + 3 STL
