What are you guys looking for in the event of a AK47 trade?

Post#1 » by ComboGuardCity » Sun Oct 31, 2010 5:08 pm

Is it cap relief for this season in order to stay under the luxury tax? Would you do a straight AK47 for Rip because, imo, the Jazz are a quality 2 away from seriously contending. Or are you looking for draft picks, or are you just going to keep him?

Rip would help but his contract is too bad so no to him. Jazz would want cap relief and a shooter or a young guy. From Detroit, it would have to be Monroe and Prince

I doubt you would get Monroe even though our coach can't develop young talent. I guess your best bet was that proposed Melo trade.

Really doubt there was any weight to that proposed Melo trade. Really don't see the Jazz trading AK for nothing. There would've been a draft pick and/or young player involved.

I'm hoping for a playmaker/shooter. A SG role. Now that we have an inside presence has that helped us? Two or three blocks a night isn't what the Jazz need. I'd love someone like Horny.... Redd maybe.

If the situation actually goes down to the Jazz trading Kirilenko it will be because the team is not succeeding. If that's the case, I think we should get expirings and picks.

You have to consider there's a lockout looming out there because there's no way the Players Union accept the cuts the owners want.

Jazz should position themselves in the best possible financial/cap shape waiting for a lockout to probably ruin the last sure season of Deron Willaims in a jazz uni...

The Jazz aren't trading AK.

Just curious why would a guy who has never been to an all star game command an all star type player in return?

If the Jazz are playing well, they'll probably hold on to AK. If they trade him, I don't think Detroit's an ideal partner. We'd be looking for a little cap relief/flexibility, and Hamilton's on the books another three years.

Has been an all-star and he is that important to our team. I wouldn't make a trade unless we get better through it and the only thing that could replicate or replace AK is an all-star caliber player so there you go...

You obviously don't know a lot about the guy you are asking about. Go learn, and then come back. He certainly isn't the incredible machine he was when he entered the league anymore, but he is still capable of being a very valuable piece to a contending team.

AK is a great player. He hasn't been an all star for 5 years. I was just commenting on the fact that a player like that does not command an all star when he is not the same player he was 5 years ago.

Sorry Combo, but very few teams want the monster contract that RIP comes with. Granted he is a nice role player at this stage of his career, but nowhere near worth the 36 million still owed to him.

Yup, Rip to Utah has no legs.

I agree with you 100%. If he was worth his contract he would be an elite player. Unfortunately, our GM gave the wrong player the extension (should've gone to Billups). However, teams that are in contention, but have a glaring deficiency at the SG position will most likely make a deal at the deadline and overpay a bit.
