Asik continues to impress. His continued development is going to be a great thing for Noah, allowing Jo to play some easier minutes at PF spelling Boozer. Nice find.

I just popped in last night to make some quick funnies but didn't actually discuss the game in any real way.

This was the over-riding thing that stood out to me (not Deng's game since I wasn't shocked to see him play basketball well). Asik is really coming along well, and quickly. He had some very nice look passes and he moves his feet a lot quicker on driving players than I thought he would be able to. He has better instincts than I gave him credit for.

And he's big. And against teams like the Blazers, we really need to have that dimension. Three games in, here are my big take-aways:

(a) Rose is going to have a monster year, and propel himself into the discussion as a no-brainer top 10 player.

(b) Brewer is **** up physically. Thibs used him properly last night, which is to say he didn't really use him at all. Keep it that way until he gets his explosiveness back. Without it, he's useless. I'm hoping he'll get back to form by January.

(c) Asik is way more ready to contribute way earlier than I ever would have believed based on what I saw from him previously. He gets it.

-Noah does not deserve the money he's making. We could have gotten another high energy rebounding big for half his price.

Here is a nice stat for you:

Luol Deng became just the 4th Bull since 1986 to score 40 or more points on 20 or less shots, joining Scottie Pippen, Michael Jordan (twice) and Ben Gordon on that list.

That has happened 34 times since 2000-01 with such "members" including Larry Hughes, Ramon Sessions, Nate Robinson, Mehmet Okur, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone, Chris Bosh, Carlos Boozer and Kevin Durant. A truly strange list.

Well, I'm glad I didn't log in at halftime like I was going to and say 'If Deng ends up with 30 points, I'll never post again'.

Hey, not taking anything away from his performance. He had a great game and filled that scoring void that we have. (and here's the) BUT, the issue with Luol has never been potential, it has been consistency. What can he bring in the long run? That is what we will have to wait and see. My gut? Trade him now while you can. But hey, he might prove us all wrong as well.

Most alarming thing in the game: I'm noticing more and more that Derrick is really getting sloppy towards the end of games. Turnovers, miscues, bad shooting. Not a good thing from your franchise. Hopefully Thibs will work on calming him down a bit at the ends of games, instead of screaming "GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO!"

But for one of the teams that wanted him the most...especially for his 3pt shooting... Going 0-6 from deep with 5 fouls isn't a good way to make the Bulls think about moving that Cat's pick.

He is now shooting 30.8% from the field and 31.3% from deep in 19 minutes per game.

I would still take Rudy....but at some point...Portland has to come to grips with their asking price.....

Not sure what you are saying here. You wouldn't trade the Charlotte pick for him - nor would I, nothing to do with last night's game.

(a) Rose is going to have a monster year, and propel himself into the discussion as a no-brainer top 10 player.

He's playing much smarter than last year, recognizing what defenses are being put out there and keeping his finger on the pulse of the team. He could've gone out and scored 30+ again if he wanted to but guys (Deng) were draining shots left and right, so he deferred, set them up, and the rest is history.

His defense looks lot better too. He just finds himself in better position most of the time, though he's still prone to lapses. Miller blew by him once last night which had Cliff Levingston all like :facepalm:

He had his best game yet in limited minutes, which was nice. He helped to bust up the zone that Portland went to, but yea, limited minutes until he's right. Bogans, Korver and Johnson can pick up the slack until then, hopefully.

He's still wildly unrefined but he's out there making an impact and playing well in spite of that. That bodes well for his future once he further acclimates himself to the NBA game, gets stronger and more experienced. He's only 24 years old. Him and Noah just lock down the paint when they're in there together.

James Johnson looks like an NBA player this year. Too many fouls and he didn't have a great game last night but he looks like he belongs out there. Maybe never a starter but a guy you can count on for some decent minutes off the bench. That's more than Cliff Levingston thought we'd get from him.

I think generally NBA players are stupid and rarely care/read scouting reports. I think special is the coach that can get a team to play within a scheme and get players to utilize 'tendencies' to their advantage (coaches like Sloan, Pops, and Jackson)
