No, most of us sort of agree that we are overpaying for Conley considering he has not demonstrated anything near that amount of money in terms of actual production.

why pay him now?

SHould have let him become a resrticted free agent and let the sagging market set his value._ It sureley would have been less than 8-9 mill per.

Our F.O is doing that with Jeff Green and I think its the smartest thing they could have done.

lol wow are the front office trying to ruin your team.
Conley is nothing but a player with potential and you guys are paying potential this much money?

First your guys trade Pau and now give Conley so much money you may lose the other brother marc? Does your front office have something against the Gasol's?

In free agency no other team would even pay him 6 million a year lol.

He would be very lucky to even get that.

The difference being that Conley has made it clear that he is not willing to take a paycut. And, there is no such thing as sagging market value. There's only the hope that the new CBA will somehow reduce contracts. People overpay just as much if not more in shallow free agent markets because a guy like Conley would be one of the few worthwhile players around. A lot of guys have signed extensions recently, probably fearing this trend.

The paycheck isn't justified, but their logic in doing it may be. I personally would have let him walk.

You mean now or after the CBA? Conley has been as good as Felton and Felton is paid 1.5$M more than Conley will be next season. Conley will only make $6.5M the first year, the contract is like ZBo's where a ton of the money is deferred

After the season Conley's about to have, he probably would've been getting at least 10 mil a year

Here's the thing. In this league PGs and Cs get paid. This is not at all a bad contract. Conley is only 23 years old (just turned 23). He was the best Grizzlies player in pre-season that went 8-0. He's also arguably been their best player so far this season, just needs to improve defensively.

Some players just get "it" after a couple years. 8 million for a 23 year old PG that averaged around 16/6 the last 25 games last year and carried over the intense play to this season is NOT a bad deal.

Good points relentless. I was also reminded, again, that had Mike stayed at Ohio St, this would be his rookie year.

I think it is a bad deal because I doubt other teams would offer him any higher. But, it does leave Conley open for a breakout year, and then a quick exit. I personally would prefer a sign and trade, which can still occur if he improves his stock enough.

I'm still lost that we can pay Conley this much, but try to stick it to Henry on his rookie deal.

Because Conley wouldn't accept our lowball offers, but Henry was really left with no choice. And we gave up Pau to cut salary. :eyeroll:
