looks like Retardi finally got a job, didn't some of you geniuses say that he was gonna be hired as a GM in no time after we fired him? the best he can do is a special assistant to GM Sandy Alderson? well i atleast i don't have to look at see his face or hear him talk on ESPN.

I know Schad said it and couple of other knowledagable guys, BTW, if didn't attack you. I just had a feeling in general the Ricciardi nut huggers didn't like the Anthopolous hire.

Why would people that liked Ricciardi not like hiring the guy that was under him and responsible for many of his moves?

The mind boggles. I think JP was offered a job by Boston last October but he turned it down for ESPN. This year he got interest from Boston and the Mets. Its not a really high profile job but its defiantly an important one, where would AA be without his 2 assistants? I agree with Randle I don't understand why people hate JP it wasn't like we were the Nationals or the Pirates when he left. He built a team to make a run at the playoffs and it didn't work out players got badly injured others underperformed just how it goes in baseball.

Lol, what does it matter what the title is. The Mets didn't fire anyone in the FO except Minaya so he's not just going to steal someone's job. You don't even know yet what his job entails. And explain to me how exactly he was a spectacular failure at ESPN.

As a frequent viewer of ESPN BBTN, I thought Ricciardi was fine. He often talked about the Jays, of course, which I liked, but he has a pretty good knowledge of the scouting side of the game too.

It'd be cool to sign Bedard and Harden to cheap one year contracts and throw em in the bullpen n see what they can do there. With them plus Hill and maybe even Richmond, we could have 4 Canadian pitchers!

Ricciardi worked under Alderson with the A's. There is a history there. That is likely why he was hired. I doubt Alderson said "man Ricciardi did a great job in Toronto let me scoop him up before someone else does!". Just because a GM hires his friend as an assistant doesn't mean that friend (in this case Ricciardi) was heavily coveted.

With that said, I think JP will be OK in an assistant role. Let him scout failed starters who could be relievers some day, or undervalued bench players. Just keep him away from making the big decisions and he should be fine.
