GT: Spurs vs Suns

Post#1 » by Nolan » Wed Nov 3, 2010 12:06 am

When: 10:00 PM ET, November 3, 2010
Where: US Airways Center, Phoenix, AZ

Image

VS

Image

Starting Lineups:

Spurs:
PG - Tony Parker
SG - Manu Ginobli
SF Richard Jefferson
PF Tim Duncan
C Dejuan Blair

Suns:
PG - Steve Nash
SG - Jason Richardson
SF - Grant Hill
PF - Hedo Turkoglu
C - Robin Lopez

This should be a good matchup for us. The Suns have had alot of problems rebounding and playing defense so far so hopefully we can exploit those weaknesses. We're going to have to try to contain the Suns backcourt if we want to win this one, Nash and J-Rich have been great so far we're going to have to make them work on both ends.

Bonner will miss this game and there's no word yet on whether George Hill will play or not.

Go Spurs!!

I'm hoping Pop gives Splitter more playing time in this game.

TP should be able to have his way with Nash.

I always look forward to games vs Phoenix.

Let's go team!

This game, I'm a little worried about.

Phoenix is well-rested. They are coming off a lost at home againts LA. Their offense isn't as dominant as in the past, but they're still above average when it comes to offense. And if we have trouble defending Indiana, Hornets, Clippers, then I imagine we'll still have trouble againts the Phoenix offense. We just can't count on our defense to shut teams down like we used to.

I hate to say it, but the key to this game is definitely our offense again. Two of the big 3 needs to show up. And we need 2 other guys who play well. Hopefully last year's sweep is still in the players' head. They're not the same team without Amare, but most of the guys there playing are still the guys that kicked our ass last year. I hope we win, but this game I have my doubts. I won't be surprised if lose.

Oh and this is the game Dejuan Blair or Splitter needs to show up. IMO, this is the best time for Splitter to claim the starting job. Blair has been disappointing and if Splitter can put together 2-3 games of solid play while Blair continues sucking, there's no reason for Pop not to insert Splitter to the starting lineup.

Blair seems fairly casual out there this season. It might be his natural demeanor but it just doesn't look like he's pushing himself that hard. It kind of looks like he doesn't care. Not to get too dimestore psychologist, just something I've noticed so far.

I agree that Splitter can and should try and nab that starting spot. I think he will before too long.

1st quarter story...

3 minutes left, game tied 17-17.

Turnover is a big issue in the 1st quarter. 7 already in the game. Phoenix switched to zone midway through the quarter after the Spurs zipped past them all the way to the paint all game long. The zone right now kinda confused the Spurs a little and for whatever the reason they're hobbling the ball. As if they can't get a good grip on the ball.

Good thing, we're playing good defense. Doesn't matter since we just turnover the ball thou, but atleast we're holding Phoenix to a 29% shooting right now.

Splitter comes in, and Suns are attacking him. They post up Warrick on Splitter and drew the foul. Next opportunity didn't work thou. Splitter drew the charge on P&R. This second unit (Neal, Temple, Anderson, Dice, Splitter) needs to utilize Splitter's low post game. Splitter is posting up and asking for the ball, but they just don't give it to him.

Splitter just scored on a nice hook. I don't think Pop feels Duncan and Splitter works well. Blair is replaced with Dice. Splitter comes in to replace Duncan. So we've seen Blair and Dice play alongside Duncan in this game, but not Splitter. Wonder if that'll continue. Spurs tried Splitter-Duncan last game for 5 minutes with no result but it was Splitter's first game...

2nd quarter action.

Dragic is nice... I'm liking this kid. Spurs continue to turn the ball over. Suns applying fullcourt pressure and while it doesn't result in turnovers for us, it does force us to play like we're out of control. Garrett Temple is not a PG guys... It's getting obvious..

Game tied 38 with 6 minutes left in the 2nd quarter.

Dragic is going to be a star. Everytime the Suns scored, it's because of Dragic. Either he's scoring or he's setting guys up. 7 minutes of playing time and he got 8 points and 4 assists.

Halftime, game tied 50-50.

Same story again, Blair or Splitter didn't show up. Spurs are turning the ball over way too much. 12 for the game right now. It has resulted to 7 more shots for Phoenix and the game is tied despite them shooting only 42%.

I really like Phoenix's second unit with Dragic. Nash and Dragic, they're pure point guards. I love how they control the game. Too bad Amare isn't there anymore. Them 2 guys need finishers.

Duncan is dominating this game. We're turning the ball over way too much but the Suns are really struggling on offense.

Yes but we're sloppy with the ball. 19 turnovers for the game now at the end of 3rd quarter. Lead is only 2. Damn it Blair sucks. No kidding.

Splitter has 3 offensive rebounds, 2 charges, and scored 7 points in 12 minutes of action. He's not playing much because he's been primarily used as Tim Duncan's backup other than the 1 minute at the end of first half where he played next to Tim. But I have to say Splitter has been productive considering what he's done in a short period of playing time.

This is getting dangerous. We can't pull away. Suns are just hanging in there.
