Gee, Cartier looked pretty good last night, didn't he? ;-)

Actually, I was glad to see him have such a good game. I have to admit I'd be all over a deal like this one:

Al Thornton & Nick Young

for

Reggie Evans

All expiring deals, so no cap impact. Significantly increases the Bball IQ of the team immediately. Shores up the Wiz' biggest weakness - rebounding. Give Cartier more minutes, he's earned them - including (especially) on the defensive side of the ball. Sign a FA SG/SF as a deep bench guy.

I'd just rather watch Cartier give his all and maximize his talent than see Nick waste his...

I wouldn't do that deal, Severn Hoos. I can live with writing off Young and Thornton in the long term, but in the short term they're the only swing men on the team outside of Martin. We can't afford to jettison them in favor of yet another power forward.

I'd like to see us trade one of Young/Thornton for one of Moon/Parker from Cleveland. Or maybe trade them for James Posey and a future pick (Indy would be saving a lot of 2011/12 salary in the deal).

Don't take this the wrong way nate, but...who cares? We can pick up NBDL guys who would give us as much as Nick Young. Booker is basically Thornton, so let's just force feed him minutes at SF. Having a guy who will crash the boards and give some hard fouls is going to help a heckuva a lot more than mediocre reserve swingmen will.

(And no way Toronto does that deal anyway. Without Evans their frontcourt might be softer than ours.)

Yeah, I was picking Evans pretty much at random, I like the deals you proposed as well. Or Lyrical's deal for Craig Smith (another favorite of mine). But I also think that it just wouldn't matter too much if we sent away Young & Thornton and replaced them with Cartier & a random NBDL swingman.

I'm starting to get worried that the low IQ and bad habits on the team will wear on Wall. Even if he doesn't pick up the bad habits himself, it would have to be frustrating watching the other guys give less than full effort and play dumb ball. And I certainly don't want him to get in the habit of adjusting his game down to accommodate poor teammates. A team full of athletically-challenged but fundamentally sound players would be much better, IMO.

Parker & Posey would be good options in that regard. In fact, Parker Posey might be a better option...

Hmm, she is from Baltimore. Maybe she could help recruit Melo here - the best free agent in show.

Come-on Pine, you can't call the DAGGER!!! on a tying bucket, it's got to be called only when the basket officially puts the game out of reach for the win.

Maybe you missed the announcement but we got a new owner. His first name is Ted. Last name Leonsis. He does thing different than our old owner.

I know it is going to take time to sink in for many but most of what people associate with what this franchise does is useless information now. This isn't like the Skins where people are waiting for Dan to do something different. We actually have a different person who owns the team that does things different and has a different plan and style.

The Gil/AJ Contracts
The trading young and tall for small and old
The "curse"
The trading away picks for win now approach

That was under Abe

With Ted we keep Hamady, Martin and Hudson and don't have to decide on them till January.
We extended Dray and moved money forward since we could with our cap space.
We kept Gil instead of trading him for peanuts
We kept all our players who were assets whos stock can go up before we decide what to do
We have no terrible contracts. Gil was already in place.
We won the #1 and got Wall. Ted has won two #1 picks in two leagues. No "curse" here.
We drafted tougher players who are defensive minded
We basically got a extra first round pick for some cash and got a vet player/coach to help our young team in transition
We signed J Howard to a one year value contract as insurance to go along with AT, Booker and Hudson at SF to buy us time while we evaluate where we are and who to keep.

The front office has made a ton of solid moves. What we did under Abe is of little use when looking at what this organization is and will do. Best to forget the past 15-20 years. It has little to nothing to do with what is going on now.

I know the pain is hard to forget but I suggest you draw a line in the sand and just look at what is happening now with fresh eyes. If you are going to look at history, look at Ted's. That is more relevant than looking at the Wizards/Bullets history.

Owners own. They set to ton and goals and time frame and sign the checks. The buck stops here. GMs consult with the owner and in the end, do their bidding.

They are a team. You can't effective judge one without the other.

As a VP/GM of a company, I live this situation. I bring ideas and the owners decides. I may suggest a hire or a plan but if it doesn't fit with what he wants, it doesn't happen. We also deliberate together and come up with things jointly. Then I go execute or organize the execution of those ideas. In the end, it is my job to execute what he signs off on or on what he dictates will be done.

It is his company and his money. He signs the checks and decides what will or won't happen. I bring ideas. It is a front office team. We do it together. It would be near impossible to judge one of us without judging both. But I have a good owner so we mostly kick ass.
