Also I guess you could call this a John Wall roll call.
Also I feel old although I've known some of you since I was like 12 so that makes you guys REALLY OLD.

Re: Roll Call
I'll be honest, I didn't know what a messageboard was until about 4 months ago, but it's definitely good to find a place where loyal Wizards fans congregate on a consistent basis (I've been a fan DC sports for as long as I can remember. Nationals and DC United included.) There is some pretty cool Wiz talk here, and I check this site pretty routinely now.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself formally to the "gray beards" here. Sorry to intrude on the reunion.

Thread: Buckhantz, his ex girlfriend, DAGGER, and a life lesson
Poster: imperium1999
Posted: December 20, 2007, 6:02 PMSo last night i'm at this new place in georgetown called hook. well not that new but newish.
i'm sitting at the bar with my friend having some much deserved after work drinks and this 40ish blond walks in and is waiting by herself. so i strike up a conversation with her and find out she lives in Aspen blah blah blah and then we get to the dating thing (see because i'm married of course).
turns out she says she was buckhantz's girl friend here for years.
now she was pretty hot for a 40 year old (hahahah 40 aint old when you can see it coming right around the corner) and i was kinda surprised at the buckhantzer's pull with the hot blond.
i had had two martinis at this point so i asked her if he ever shouted DAGGER in the bedroom with her.
she looked at me kinda strangely and said she had no idea what DAGGER meant.
so i laughed and laughed and then geeked out on her by explaining that i was going to come online and share this odd story with my internet friends that i originally met in a britney spears chat room (right jason?).
thats where i lost her i think.
so the point of this story is:
1) buck had a hot girlfriend (who said that he's not as fat in real life as he looks on TV)
2) buck never shouts DAGGER in the bedroom or in any other personal situations apparently
3) don't talk about your internet friends when flirting with a hot blond

Re: Roll Call
I remember the old ESPN boards - boy they were a war zone.
Does anyone else but me remember some dude named MARCO POLO (all caps, naturally) who would just spam the hell out of various boards. He'd jam ours once in a while, but he saved his best for the Orlando Magic (TRAGIC!) board.
Current Bulls board mod emeritus Sham used to hold campaigns against nobody in particular (Vote ShamBulls!)
JRo, WizStorm, and I have gotten married since those days. I know JRo's son is about a year younger than my daughter.
While not as old as the ESPN board days, I miss G2K. Don't miss diderotn or the ultimate bandwagonner Troy Wingate (anyone else remember them?)
LOL - good times.

We had a nice "Free G2K" thing going for a while...to no avail of course. He was a troll but the best kind of troll (a witty one who would pick and choose his trolling times).

MARCO POLO I remember. diderotn was on the ESPN boards as well, his thing there was to insist 'the wizards is curse' [sic] for what they did to MJ. I was on there with wermol, barelyawake, induveca (under another name, I forget), SUPERBALLMAN, causticcretin and others. We kept pretty good board control against trolls by clowning them mercilessly. I landed here since I was often stealing info or links from WizKev and no longer had to calculate per 40 stats myself (or god forbid, +/-) since the APBR nerd network were already building the dbases.
I lurked a year or so here but left the ESPN boards after a format change burned the flavor out of the place, leaving only trolls. My first post here ripped Kwame and Brendan (puny hands and PMS respectively), which raised the ire of Dat and Nate (respectively) but earned a 'great first post' from WizKev and WizStorm so I figured it balanced out.
Took me while to start my first thread, but I'm pretty sure it was the Poetry Slam thread, or the Zodiac thread, followed shortly by the Troll-baiting thread, and the first Hall Of Fame/Link thread, taking very seriously the role of underground mod for the people. Wherever there's a need I'll be there... (wait is that Underdawg, or danger mouse, or hong kong fooey, I forget...)
I still miss MJ's bitch stilldropin20 though. He was remarkably resilient in the face of scorn. Funny. Skilled at being an amusing arsehole.
pine killed him though. A few times. C'est la guerre.

g2k was also local_sportsfan for a minute I think. Then the bounty hunters got him too. When asked why he got banned in the earlier incarnation, he answered honestly: 'because I was trolling'

It's still funny how enamored I was with being the 37th member of REALGM and the first person to post on the board
. It was not a Laron Profit post unfortunatly.

Goodness, I've been here longer than I thought. I guess that the 05 on gilbertgoes is from 2005. It's still not that long compared to some of you, but hey, I was a freshman in high school 5-6 years ago.
I remember when 2000 posts was considered being a 'realGM' or something like that. I'm still far away from that, but whatever.

I miss the old Rod Strickland's Towel Dance Team game threads.

I wish I could find some of stilldropin20's old posts. That guy made crazy and inflammatory cool.
What about the illustrious, albeit short, run of Giltawn Butle?. Great screen name (at the time). Some kid who racked up about 5,000 posts in a few months and got himself banned.
I haven't seen DorianWrite in these parts for a while either.
There were also a couple of women that posted here a ways back. One was a big Etan supporter as I remember.

He shows up sporadically with his unique style. He's a good writer - we've got more than our fair share here.

Re: Roll Call
Just a plug for lurker crowd. I don't know how many of us there are, but some of us love to read the insights and thoughts of frequent posters even if we don't write often. We're the guys who sit back at Thanksgiving dinner letting the talk/discussion/argument go back and forth, just enjoying without participating. Every now and then Uncle Larry remembers we're here and asks our opinion, and we try to offer up some nugget of wisdom, but we know deep inside that others have already said it, and better.
Truly, I can't believe I have been on this board for 8 and a half years. I'm averaging about one post a month, but I read just about every day. Serious props to all of the old heads, and many of the new ones. Nivek - glad your back, nice photo in the Post. Your analysis makes watching the games a totally different experience. Doc - you are one of the most creative thinkers and writers I know, and I know a lot of them. I don't know your voice, but you need a 70's style late-night radio show. I would tune in under the covers to listen to your fully coherent ramblings. Nate - I sometime think of you as Nivek Jr. Love the statistical analysis, love the knowledge of the CBA. Dat and Ruz - sometimes you guys get snippy, but I respect the opinions and willingness to back them up. Never stop bringing the trade thoughts. Hoopalotta - great new addition, love the new blood keeping things lively. Get some sleep out there in the Far East. Donk - Always keeps me laughing with a one-line zinger. Pine - Also glad you're back, bringing down the hammer, bringing truly deep historical knowledge of the Bullets, and the quick insight that cuts through the bull. Fishercob - I know I'm always going to get some substance when I see Ted's mug looking out at me. JRo - Short, sharp analysis, with just the right combination of modesty and bravado. Miller - the Referee, but with a bias. And I would be remiss to leave out Scabs and Ji - the Jokers in the pack. And sorry for many more I didn't mention. Everyone contributes to make this my biggest daily time-suck. Please don't tell my wife or boss.
I don't know what came over me - I really have a lot to do. But this board is my virtual Thanksgiving table, so I'm giving thanks.
