Bulls Could Trade Johnson To Bobcats

Post#1 » by countryboi » Fri Nov 5, 2010 1:25 pm

The Bulls have explored the possibility of trading forward James Johnson to the Bobcats, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

It remains to be seen if the talks will turn serious.

It would have to be for Hendo right? Nobody else makes sense....

I personally would just hold on to Hendo, Johnson will either sit on the bench behind UPS or take his minutes.

Jordan was very high on him going into the draft if I recall correctly.

Unless they are looking to trade Boris, start T2 and make Johnson the back up at the PF spot?

I concur.

Then again, same thing could be said about Hendo I guess.

That is exactly what I am thinking, regarding Boris being moved. JJ is avg 5 pt and 5 reb in 19 min./game. 6'9 and 245 would be solid backup to TT. I would trade Henderson for him, yes.

Najera or Henderson would work straight up (others are in the range but have recently signed). I woud do Najera, I wouldn't do Henderson.

The Bulls were very interested in Henderson during his draft, just as the Cats were interested in JJ. He's a Wake Forest guy, so he'd probably benefit from playing in a familiar place. It's probably just a case of 2 teams getting players they were interested in at one point that have relatively similar trade values.

I will say that the Johnson has looked better this year. He's shown flashes of being a pretty good defensive player. Offensively he's been hit or miss. Can hit a jumper, can hit a 3, can get to the rim sometimes but not with a ton of consistency. After getting placed outside of Thibadeau's rotation to start the year, he has already played himself into a role with his strong play. In fact, he's becoming a minor fan favorite here in Chicago. He seems to be a hard dedicated worker (aka he wants to get better). In the summer, he lost like 20-25 lbs to be in better shape and quicker in general. He's also worked with Scottie Pippen a lot during camp, in an attempt to help him refine his game, as many people have drawn comparisons to their respective games. I doubt he'll be anywhere near Scottie in terms of ceiling, but he could be a pretty useful player.

It does sort of appear that way.

Only thing I can't work out is fit. You guys already have Brewer, Korver and Bogans. Why bring in another SG?

Also, it would leave us with Jax and Hammer as the only SG's on our roster.

oh no, another 6'9" tweener.

what do we need him for? He's not a true PF and we have UPS and McGuire backing up Crash. Makes absolutely no sense for both teams.

btw, there's a dude on the Bulls board who thinks it's going to be a JJ/Jax trade. lmao.

So I imagine if this happens DJ and Carrol split the back-up SG minutes, or Just play Jax 40 mins a game like last year, that shouldn't be a problem

Playing Hammer at all would interfere with LB's long-term plan to crush his will to live, he might hit a few shots and screw everything up.

Thought so but local trade checker didn't stop me. Unreliable.

But still if he would be the only one coming from our side? (not going to happen anyway, they are not Grizzlies enough)

Some Bulls fan even suggested Collins + Henderson for JJ Substract Shaun going down with his knee (that's sadly always possibility) and you have Carroll as not first but only guard from the bench  (and one spot for a D-Leaguer to fill that). They started to be way to creative there on their board :)

Brewer has looked slower than expected because of injuries, Korver is more of a SF that can fit in at SG, and Bogans just sucks. I haven't seen much of Henderson since he's been in the league, but the Bulls could take all the help they can get at SG.

BTW, James Johnson is probably the most polarizing player we've had on the Bulls since......Tyrus Thomas.

How high/low are the Cats on S-Jax? It feels like there might be some butting of heads going on behind the scenes with Jackson and Brown. Has there been any talk about that?
