Is Jon Kitna Underrated?

Post#1 » by Conadra » Wed May 7, 2008 1:36 am

I feel like the guy is a the only true leader in the Lions locker room. The guy is a positive dude and he can really play. Sure, his TD-INT ratio is terrible but you can't blame it all on him since Lions' O-line is historically terrible. I really hope he does well this season. He has passed 4000 yards each of the last season and that's pretty amazing. With the WRs he has, I hope he can make some noise in the NFC North.

He's the best QB in his division which is really sad.

I'm getting kind of sick of this statement. Tarvaris Jackson was 8-4 as a starter (and the Vikes outscored their opponents 323-218), while the Vikings were 0-4 in games he didn't play (and the Vikes were outscored 42-93). He and Kitna both had pretty crappy numbers when it comes to TD/INT, QB Rating, YPA, etc, but Tarvaris is young and improving while Kitna is old and declining.

Looking at the second half of the 2007 season, TJ was 5-2, had 7 TDs to 7 INTs, and completed 65% of his passes. Kitna was 1-7, had 8 TDs to 14 INTs, and completed 60% of his passes.

I'm not trying to say Tarvaris is good (yet), maybe not even adequate, but imo he's a better QB today than John Kitna is.

All I am going to say is I'll give him some props for going out there and saying the Lions would win 10 games. They fell a few games short, but they were playing like a playoff team the first half of the season.

I hope you aren't serious. Aaron Rodgers is already better and he hasn't even proven anything.

I don't know about that. Just because Aaron Rodgers had a decent game in Dallas game last season doesn't mean he's going to bring the packers to the promise land.

Brian Brohm is probably the best QB in that division, but Kitna is a steady hand that deserves recognition.

Well, you've sold me. What a convincing, not-at-all-contradictory statement.

Give Kitna the OL and RB in MIN and that is a Super Bowl team. Put Jackson on the Lions and they probably don't win more than 3 games.

Swap Kitna and Rodgers and the Packers are still the clear favorites in the division, if not the NFC. Because Rodgers fits the Lions new style of offense well, he might be able to lead them to 6 wins. Right now the Packers are a great unknown, and the Lions are not any worse than last season's 7-9.

Chicago has the worst QB situation this side of MIA. Brian Brohm would be their starter IMO.

As far as Kitna being underrated, I think most people see him for what he is--a decent starter who put up sick numbers in Martz's offense. He had that very good year in CIN and there are a lot of things he does very well. Great leader, as long as the guys aren't put off by his Jesus fetish. But he takes too many chances and has a nasty habit of creating pressure on plays where the OL does a pretty good job, i.e. poor pocket awareness.

And this is probably his last year starting in DET. Drew Stanton is impressing.

gotta love homers, Kitna is best in the division as of right now. Jackson is a close second but right now kitna holds the top qb spot in that division. Like someone said he isnt the most efficient or the best pure passer but he is a true leader on the field which Jackson,Rodgers, and Grossman cannot say yet. I still think Kyle Orton deserves a chance in Chicago though, he wasnt the prettiest but he won games.

John Kitna should shut up.
"If we dont win 10 games, I'll be disappointed". Well, buddy get ready to get disappointed again. He is not underrated. He really just is not that good.

You can't really blame Jon Kitna for wanting to believe his statement...

But this is my opinion on the Lions; The Knicks finally stripped Isiah Thomas of any say with their team. NFL equivalent, Matt Millen, is still with the Lions. I'm really hoping this is his last go round and the season goes down the crapper.

Drew Staton, Week 4 starting QB...come on.
