This is the first I've heard of Dallas being interested, but I've long thought Arenas for some combination of Kidd/Marion/Terry is possible.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

What a bunch of crap.
I agree with you'll. Gil looks lost this pre-season. Who have they been talking to, Wilbon ?
More crap from the media.
Thank God we didn't trade him for VC. We would have gotten burned in that deal.

Just wait till Wojo from Yahoo gets in on the act. Berger's Marry freakin' Poppins in a Sunday frock compared with Chief Executioner Wojo.
Alright, is Berger's source Jamison?
Yeah, but what they are missing is what we know. They are missing the Washington angle. They make it all about simply Gil in a snap shot without taking into account what is best for the team or what is about to come from the fans.
Reality. Gil is healthy. His legs look strong. He got the rest he needed. Gil is a great skilled player still. We still need him. Gil is playing here for the foreseeable future. Trading this off-season would be trading low. Ted/EG aren't going to do that and didn't. So Gil will be worth more as time goes on. And as he plays, he will hear the cheer from fans. He will be a star here again. This is Washington. We are the second chance city. This town is tough but it isn't shallow. It has a big heart. And we love basketball. This isn't NY.
By the time we would even consider trading him, Gil is going to be happier and so will the Wizards and so will the fans.
People are going to be wearing #9 and #0 jerseys to the game. Wait till Gil sees that. Wait to he hears the cheers from the fans the first home game. It's going to be LOUD.
A lot of healing is going to take place in that one five minutes span.
Lets see if they write about that.

Thats what I was thinking, but the media will write whatever they want regardless.
Story followers. Lazy thinkers.
Hey, they said EFJ was great. What do they even really know. We know more then they do except when they get a quote from someone. As for ideas or projects or conclusions. Clueless.

Dusting off the Gil thread since we should be seeing him soon.

Forget about Gil for expirings. Let's deal him for other overpaid vets!
Wizards trade: Gilbert Arenas
Wizards receive: Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza
Hornets trade: Paul, Okafor, and Ariza
Hornets receive: Carter, Nelson, Pietrus, and Orton
Magic trade: Carter, Neson, Pietrus, and Orton
Magic receive: Paul and Arenas
TRADE ID 5726079
Doesn't help our cap, but gets us defensive vets that are good locker room guys.
Okafor/McGee
Blatche/Yi
Ariza/Thornton (until Howard is healthy)
Hinrich/Young
Wall/Hinrich

I'm not sold on the Wall/Hinrich, I rather see a Wall/Gil.

I'm getting a little tired of these Gil rumours.
I'm pretty much at the point where IF the Wiz don't want him, just buy him out and move on.

.The Wizards would like to separate themselves from Gilbert Arenas, but they will not buy him out in order to do so.
The belief is that if John Wall continues to have success that the team will look for a way to ship Arenas out of town via trade.
Washington isn't worried that Arenas will have a negative influence on Wall, but that he will further ruin the team's public image.
Arenas is making $17.7 million this season and has more than $60 million left on three additional years
President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

That's from a much longer piece by Mark Stein in the weekend Dime.
http://espn.go.com/nba/dailydime/_/page ... washington
Emboldened by the rumors, the Raptors board has decided that they'll send us back $70 million in salary for Arenas so long as we kick in two first round picks and McGee.
viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1064247&start=0
Fact is, this rumors will be flurrying around all year.
A buyout would be colossally stupid and the worst possible outcome for the 'Zards - that just creates dead space that can't be moved under any circumstances. The Wizards would be operating with an effective salary cap of $36-$40 million or so and would be completely unable to build anything.

Did Stein just write a whole article telling us what the Wizards want to do with his awesome insider information while citing.......absolutely no one?

I see your point.
The two best case scenarios I see:
1.)Gilbert plays very well, is a team player and draws interest around the league and we move him.
2.)Gilbert plays very well, is a team player and the Wiz surprisingly are in the playoff mix....and we keep him.
I would prefer the latter.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

I used to enjoy reading Stein, but at this point I'm pretty sure that he must carry around a small unintelligent pet in his coat pocket (for example, a mouse, a roach, or Colin Cowherd) so he can say things like "We believe", or refer to the pet as his "source".

I thought that was a reasonably fair and even-handed commentary on the Arenas situation.

Re: Arenas for Vince or dump Arenas for cap space?
Arenas is a pretty hot potato topic. I can understand why sources (Wizards, Magic, Raptors, whatever) would want to remain off the record, and reporters that don't respect that get a reputation and lose their sources. That doesn't make Stein's reporting true, but some of it rings true, and nothing really stood out as clearly false.
The fourth quarter showed a fairly lousy collapse, typical of the Wizards past, but Arenas in the second half showed a glimpse of how he could help this team and help Wall. Whether Arenas' talents will cleanly mesh with Wall's talents, I don't know, but I want to see them on court together more before judging that.

Mostly this is a pro Gil thread as time has moved on.
I just think of this as the Gil thread. It may be time to change the title.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 07636.html
So this is the first I have hear this version of Gil and the fake injury.
Spin or the truth ? Hopefully it is the truth.
He was admittedly overcome with anxiety, with thoughts of the unknown permeating in his mind; the same worries that caused him problems last month, when fears about the reaction he would receive at a home preseason game led him to fake an injury.
"I didn't know what to expect, so I said I was hurt," Arenas said after coming off the bench to score 18 points in the Wizards' 112-91 loss to the New York Knicks. "It was one of those things, my nerves kicked in. Human nature I guess."

willbcocks in early summer wrote wrote:Anyway, to summarize my points:
-Gil is a great offensive player with a big contract who is 28 and has an injury history. He is not a good fit for a rebuilding team that has only 2 starter quality players, aged 23 and 19.
-Replacing Gil with nothing benefits us in a few ways: fewer wins so better draft position, more play time for youngins, cap space that can be used to acquire assets for our future. Also, "nothing" plays better defense than Gil, and I really want to establish a defensive team.
-Trading Gil is better for Gil. He could use a new start, both for personal and professional reasons.
-We have no idea if other teams are interested or not. If they are, it will be for the same reasons people are interested here--they think he will return to the Gil of old. For this reason, I disagree that we have nothing to lose by waiting and seeing what happens--we have a whole lot to lose if Gil gets re-injured or has lost a step. Then he becomes unmovable. NOTE: If he's already unmovable, then we have nothing to lose, but in this thread we are assuming he is.
-I have no idea what our FO is thinking. I'll leave that to our metaphysical analysts.
-The main driver of ticket sales will be our #1 pick and Wall dancer. Not a player arrested for bringing guns into the locker-room and our teams average, at best, record.
Well, it looks like we have the answer, either to this question or to the question about whether or not our GM is competent.
Too bad we're not getting back Carter
