I would take a BIG over Detroit offer. We def need size. we lack of rebound & post up game. There are way too many jumpshots which I hate when Josh Smith is taking them.

For the teams Sake we need A Center or will just be a Playoff team and nothing more..But If we get rid of Crawford thats kinda A backstep Because wiithout him Our offense would be Even more Horrible t a and painful to watch so to get to where we want we need to trade Bibby or Marvin or Even Josh and get a cheaper SF and legit Center and still keep crawford

Then just sign Murray, he brings us exactly where Crawford bring us, and trade Crawford for a 8M player.
It will ocst the same thing, but we could be better.
Only problem, the player has to be expiring too, because Crawford if not traded is set to walk away at the end of the season.

The problem is that non of the good centers are available. Of course we could likely trade Crawford and get a crappy big man, but would that really be an improvement?

Samuel Dalembert sounds like the guy you are looking for. Defense, Rebounding, and an expiring contract.

I'd swap Crawford for Dalembert and a 2nd, but Kings fans claim he's untouchable. Then again... it's Kings fans.
What about Dampier? Isn't he a UFA right now?

Marcin Gortat should be starting for Atlanta!

We are in a division with the best center in the NBA and we just gave a guard 120M. Atlanta, where amazingly stupid happens.
GO HAWKS.

Overpaying Joe was a bad move...but what does that have to do with Howard being in the division? Would you feel better about the contract if the Magic played in the Atlantic division or something?

Tyson Chandler would be the other.

do you really think trading josh smith for tyson **** chandler would help the hawks go deeper in the playoffs?
everyone on this board keeps saying lets dump josh for robin lopez, chandler, etc. but none of those guys make the hawks contenders so trading josh for them is just silly.
realistically, the only way the hawks are really going to get a C that is actually worth having is through free agency or the draft.

Chandler, Dalembert,... or other 10M expiring C are what we need, but coming from the bench and play 25-30min at C, with Al splitting his playing time between C and PF, and Josh playing PF.
If we had to trade one of Josh and Al, it would not be for C like that, or it doesn't make any sense.

Zaza beats him when they compete head-to-head. Guys coming off the bench often look better than they really are.
My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

We don't trade Josh Smith for a avg Center. None of those center will help the hawks get any deeper. Right now Josh is playing out of the world. Let's see how much better he's gotten before thinking of trading him for some 7ft avg center.

I have never heard a kings fan say Daly is untouchable, I think the general consensus is that if we trade him it wouldn't be until closer to the trading deadline that way it buys us time to get DMC some experience and Whiteside some experience in the D league. However I don't see us trading for Crawford. I think he is a guy we could use but he probably wont resign with us next year so if thats the case we would just hang onto Daly for the year to give our young bigs more time to adjust to the nba. Josh Smith would be nice but we wouldnt give up Evans or DMC.

Re: we need a center to WIN
It is true that we have 2 all star caliber PF's and no real center. It is also very difficult to get a quality center. The other option to move forward and actually have a chance to get to the final round of the ECF is to significantly upgrade the SF position and/or PG and get a big center that can at least rebound and defend. Long term only Joe Johnson and either Josh or Horford are critical to keep in my opinion.
Problem is if this team stays substantially together there is no future. The Hawks will be a 5 or 6 seed this year with little hopes of improving that position since Orlando and Miami have more talent.

The problem is that Al and Josh are the two having a good contract, good from a player and an owner's view.
It's with contract like that, nearly on players value that you can build a contender with a team not wanting to pay any Tax
So we two PF, and one overpaid guy.
I am sorry, but in this case, Joe has to go first, because it's unbelivable to have a 124M/6yrs guys on a team staying under Luxury tax threshold.
Now, can we assume, staying under the threshold, to have both Al and Smith and adding a good C, not an All-Star but one making impact playing 25-30min at C, with Al splitting C and PF, and Josh only PF.
If we kept both, it's the only solution to improve.
This C would certianly cost nearly 10M. it would make a 30M C-PF rotation, with minimum contract filling the other backup on both position.
It could also be two veteran C/PF at MLE, like Brad Miller and McDyess, but if veteran better than minimum salary veterans don't want to sign here, we only can trade for them.
It leaves almost 40M for the three other position, and in this case, Joe can't eat half of that.
If we keep Joe, we will always be just under the threshold, and regret that he did not sign for "only" 15M/yr, allowing to have one more guy at a MLE contract.
That's all.
This kind of contract has nothing to do in a team not paying any Tax, unless it's a Duncan kind of player.

Re: we need a center to WIN
Good centers rarely get traded in the NBA.
I still think the major problem is that the Hawks didn't try to trade Bibby to New York or Indy for an expiring. The Hawks probably have the least stable pg situation out of any "good" team in the NBA but still have no means of acquiring a player like Billups or Mo Williams when their teams eventually put them on the market.
