Statue of Kobe at STAPLES?

Post#1 » by shaankle » Tue Nov 9, 2010 7:29 am

I don't know what the general consensus is, but I'm guessing most people think it would at least be understandable if they decide to put up a statue of Kobe outside the STAPLES Center after he retires.

Yes, Kareem and others don't have a statue up yet, but I think Kobe should get one because he is THE Laker of this generation.

The question I wanted to ask you guys was this:

Which classic pose of Kobe's should they make into a statue if they choose to make one of him?

Either the airplane or the fadeaway imo. And yes, Kobe definitely deserves a statue in front of Staples.

Staples need to spread out the statues some because Kareem needs one too.

I hate how small the Oscar stature is. They should move Oscar and Wayne to across the street.

Its weird how big Magic's larger than life statue looks next to Oscar's life size statue. Magic looks 10 feet tall. I wish they only put basketball players out front.

Magic - Kareem - Kobe. And a new age 360 dunk statue maybe or the Samuri face or the proud Laker jersey.

I think the pose of Kobe standing on the scorers table flashing however many championships he's won with his fingers.

I should be of him doing one of his fade away shots.

This one is kind of cool and probably best represents Kobe as being a difficult shot-maker:

Hopefully they do a better job than they did on Magic's statue. I haven't seen it in real life, but in pictures it looks kind of hideous. Perhaps they need to bring in a real sculptor from overseas (Europe, not China, that is).

Oscar De La Hoya has a Staples statue, but none for Kareem or West.

WTF is wrong with that picture?

Frankly, we should have one for every player we retire a jersey. Create an "Avenue of Fame" leading to the main entrance or something like that.

With history like ours, you cannot possibly play that up enough. It's one of the best things about being a Lakers fan.

Agreed. Even though this would take up some space, that would also look awesome as hell.

Same feeling as semi on the Magic statue. It looks really weird and doesn't look like him as much as it could.

Jason Terry does the plane a lot too (hence is nickname, "Jet").

Yeah, Kareem and West should definitely have a statue. That's kind of crazy that they have Oscar and not them. I understand that he's the most successful boxer ever, but who gives a ****?

To be honest, I'm not sure why any sports stars get immortalized in statues?

Any of those would be sick.

But let's not forget that the Staples Center isn't just the Lakers' home. The Clippers play there, as well as the Sparks and Kings.

I could see West and Kareem getting statues outside of the Forum though, but wouldn't really be a point to that.
