Wow, sucks for O. IIRC he was released by the Spurs because of his heart related injury issues, yes?

Doghouse? Sorry to disappoint you.

The Mavs are build to be able to beat the Lakers, nothing else. For this you need a strong center combo. The reason for Carlisle to use Chandler as starter should be (my guess) to maximize his minutes with Kidd on the court since he is an excellent catch&finish guy.

The Mavs need both and Chandler and Haywood need each other, no way in hell they would be able to succeed without the other backing up. Its huge to be able to play aggressive without the fear of foul trouble.

Haywood is far from sulking or doghouse. The veteran locker room wouldnt allow this. There will be plenty of games where Haywood is the better matchup.

Trust us, he's sulking :) I remember reading the wiretap stories about Wood getting assurances that he was going to start etc. Well, he started at-first and now he is back-up. But you are right, you need more than a few bigs to be able to compete in the playoffs, Wood and Chandler will help you guys when that time comes. We have a similar plan, so we acquired Yi and Armstrong to shore-up our front court. :D

While Haywood did poorly on the boards, both Okafor and West did poorly offensively.

The Lakers still want to add a free-agent center after losing reserve Theo Ratliff for at least three to five more weeks.

"We're looking into that and we hope to get something settled this week," Jackson said.

Former Dallas center Erick Dampier wants a guaranteed contract for the rest of the season, but the Lakers hope to sign a player for only a week or two.

Paul Davis, who is playing in Spain, and Jake Voskuhl have also been considered by the Lakers.

Caron Butler is putting up a PER of 10.8. Haywood's PER is at 9.3

But Deshawn? He's up to 20.6; higher than both those guys combined!

I am happy for Stevenson. No matter how jacked up his shot was, and regardless of how much I wanted on the bench when he was obviously hurt and hurting the Wizards; I always like $5 Stevenson. I like the way he called Lebron overrated. Stevenson has a lot of heart. He is a good team guy.

Good to see DeShawn's proving why he's been a starting SG for so long.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

DeShawn hasn't been playing very much and he's only been on the + side in one of the games:

13 min, 3 pts
15 min, 6 pts
9 min, 6 pts
6 min, 0 pts
18 min, 13 pts

DeShawn had a hot game on the 20th where he hit all 7 of his shots, perhaps that skewed his numbers

For me, I couldn't be happier that he is gone and I like the way the roster is shaping up both now and how it looks we can change it around in the future by moving pieces.

He is a good team guy ? Well he played good team ball. As for his personality, I don't miss his presence.

Regarding Haywood, you don't pay a guy $11 mil per to be a backup.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

I also liked Stevenson's attitude, but let's not sugar coat things. He was a terrible basketball player for us over the last two seasons. He was an epic fail of biblical proportions. Remember my statistical analysis? He was literally the worst starting SG in NBA history.

For the record, he is not paid $11M per. He was given a 6-year contract worth $52.2M. That last (and most expensive) year of that contract was not guaranteed so effectively, it's a 5-year contract worth $41.7M, or $8.3M a year. And it comes with a Dampier-style voidable final year that might be a useful trading chip.

Haywood is actually only owed $6.9M this year.

Problem with Haywood is Chandler is about equally effective defensively when healthy, and excessively more competent on the offensive side of the ball even when ñot healthy. Once he has the ball in his hands, he has a firm grip and does a better job protecting the ball from what I've seen.

Haywood has been in the league nearly 10 years and still looks petrified with the ball in his hands on the offensive side of the ball. The kind of center you cringe at and pray the ball isn't stolen/dropped/fumbled etc.

Hilton Armatrong makes me feel that way, but x100. So I still miss Haywood. But on a championship contender? Chandler a better choice if healthy for getting the bulk of minutes/starting role. Haywood has looked 2003-ish when I've seen him play this year.

Haywood suspended one game.
SAN ANTONIO -- Dallas Mavericks backup center Brendan Haywood has been suspended for Friday's game for a violation of team rules, coach Rick Carlisle said.

Well, just for the record, Dirk was one time late to the shootaround and RC benched him almost the whole 1st quarter.

But i guess we wont know what was exactly the violation.

Mr. 50 back at it. DeShawn is 16-31 on threes this season. I'm not sure what happened during these last two years but he's shaken off whatever his issue was.

 5-6 shooting, 15 rebounds and 13 points, that would be Dominic McGuire in the back-up SF spot last night. Didn't see the game so I don't know if he was finishing around the basket or hitting jumpers. This is Dominic's first extended look of the season, he was had several 0-point outting including a night where he was 0-5. My foot is pretty tasty.
