I don't like the trade. Now, if we trade Marvin + filler for Prince, then I'm all for it. But, don't we need to cut some salaries in order to stay under the luxury tax? Why would we trade for Prince then?

As long as we don't trade Crawford for an expiring, we don' need to cut salaries.
Crawford expiring made us under Tax threshold, said it would not be lower than this year.

We can trade Crawford, Marvin, Zaza,... the only condition is not getting more than we send, and if Crawford is traded, getting at least 10-11M in expiring, in a Crawford trade, or in another deal.

We could do Crawford for Kaman, loosing our 10M expiring, but if we trade Marvin+Zaza for Prince+Bynum or Stuckey, we get an expiring of almost the same value than Crawford.

Maybe the best, assuming owners won't spend any Tax, would be to trade around 20M of contract (Crawford, Zaza and Marvin) for mainly 20M of expiring, but only players who have less value than their current salary, and re-sign them for half this salary.

It would be like trading Crawford for Prince, and Marvin+Zaza for Tyson Chandler or Dalembert, and re-signing them next summer for 5M/yr.
Hard to do it, but it would be the best thing.

The only way to improve the team without that scenario would be trading Joe, because it's the guy that makes us having no flexibilty, and the contract that doesn't make any sense for a team not wanting to spend tax.

Only SAS succeed for some years to stay under the Tax threshold while having a Max contract, but it's Duncan, and not Joe.
We have two guys like Parker and Ginobili in Al and Josh, who have contract matching their value, but the higher paid here has not the impact of Duncan.

A trade that makes sense and works:

Nash + Hill + Clark ---FOR--- Smith + Bibby + 1st Round Pick

HAWKS:

G Nash Teague
G Johnson Crawford Crawford
F Hill Williams Evans
F Horford Powell Clark
C Zaza Collins Thomas

SUNS:

G Dragic Bibby
G Richardson Dudley Janning
F Hedo Childress
F Smith Warrick Lawal
C Lopez Frye Siler

I don't think I'd trade Smith for Nash.

^Agreed. 2 years of Nash aren't worth a 24 year old Josh Smith.

Nash's a star, no doubt, but, in that trade, PHO'd have to offer more of real value: Lopez.

Damn, I think I would have done that. We need size in the worst way, and Thompson is young and has proven to have a lot of potential...his minutes are getting taken away due to the addition of Cousins, which is understandable. Adding a solid big not only helps based on the player you're getting, but it also helps due to the fact that a scrub like Collins would spend less time on the floor.
