Jefferson benching
It was weird seeing Jefferson being benched for the entire 4th Qtr and OT. One time in 4th qtr he thought Sloan called his number and he stood up but Sloan went back to AK-47 instead. Jefferson has to be embarrassed. Has anyone seen comments from Jefferson or Sloan or anyone regarding this issue?

Big Al has a chance to redeem himself tomorrow night against Dwight. But yeah, he's been a major disappointment. Hopefully, he figures it out soon.

The consoling thing through it all is that if you ask any Minny fans, they'll tell you that all these missed shots are anything but typical. I have patience with this, I think he'll come around. He needs to understand that the ball can come at him anytime, he missed a lot of obvious passes. I also think he could do better at working within the offense to get his shots, at least more often than he does. I love how he has the ability in the post to create his own shot, but he can't force them all up.

Here is a link to video of Sloan comments on why Jefferson was not playing. Basically, he says Jefferson wasnt hitting his shots, and Fess provided better help defense on Wade. Finally, he says Fess was setting better picks.

I have noticed in games this year that Jefferson sets very poor picks. He has probably never been asked to set Jazz type picks. He better learn to set good picks and help defense otherwise his minutes may deminish.

Re: Jefferson benching
I just don't think it's a big deal when a coach benches a guy who isn't playing hard and sticks with a lineup that's working.
Along similar lines: that's why a bunch of us Utah fans booed when Jordan Wynn started the second half against TCU. Nothing against him, but he clearly wasn't having a good day. Why not give someone else a shot?
I like that about Coach Sloan: he's never going to worry about hurting someone's feelings or bruising their ego by benching them when they're playing poorly. He's just trying to put the best team on the floor.

Re: Jefferson benching
I know he is going to be fine, just be patient with him. You guys need to understand that his entire career until now has consisted of posting up and trying to score over double/triple teams. He has never been on a good team with a solid basketball system let alone a system that promotes teamwork/passing.
If the coaches, players and fans just stay patient with him he will explode one day and take this team up to a whole new level.
I'm telling you guys now...once he figures things out we will be considered a top 5 team in the NBA, maybe even top 3.

He'll be fresh to play Dwight tomorrow.
It's going to be fine. I want to see Jefferson take the backup 4 minutes to separate him from Millsap and help define their roles better. The big rotation should look like this:
Millsap (36) / Jefferson (12)
Jefferson (24) / Fesenko (12 / Elson (12)
Once Millsap, Jefferson, and Okur are all on the same page, I expect big things out of that frontcourt. They might be able to challenge Pau, Bynum, Odom in the next two seasons.

In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

I liked that he didn't just sit on the bench sulking. In OT he was standing cheering for his teammates along with D-Will.

Ya it was good to see. I don't think he is the kind of guy who is going to pout about something like that which is a good thing. Everyone on the team has his back no matter how he plays and they all understand he needs more time to adjust which helps.

Re: Jefferson benching
7 games. Brandon Jennings had like 25ppg through his first 7 last season, Bosh has like 15ppg 6rpg in his first 8, and there are many classic examples of good and bad streaks. 20 games into the season things will look a little clearer, as I feel it takes a good 20 games before things really start to come together, and players start to find some consistency. For as horrile as he's been playing, before last night he was averaging 18.5/9.5, not bad considering the guy playing PF next to him has been playing much better. Key really is not if we can get 20/10 out of Jefferson, but getting a positive impact from him when he's on the floor, and as long as we can get like 40/20 between him and Millsap or 50/25 between them and Okur, then we'll be just fine. Outside of his FG% and PPG, he has his typical numbers. He's having a hard time catching some of the passes, and his shooting touch is not always there. He'll get better.

Millsap could stay around 23 PPG over the course of the season, but you're still asking for roughly 20/10 out of Jefferson. I don't think that's a crazy expectation or anything, just saying.
I was happy with Al's response after the game. Obviously he doesn't want to ride the pine down the stretch all season, but his "it's all good, I get it, and I'm glad we won" attitude seemed genuine.

I bet it happens just after the all-star break. Just you wait and see...we're going to be a monster of a team coming out of the ASG break.

One reason I'm not too worried about Al is because he acknowledges that he has a lot to learn and he seems like he is eager to learn. I just hope he will be able to learn.
I think having Paul and Al on the floor at the same time works well because Paul can hit the mid-range J better than any of our SGs. I don't know how Jerry will handle the rotation when Memo gets back, but I'm excited (as long as Memo plays like he was). Think of the big line-up of Dwill, AK, Paul, Al, and Memo. That would be cool to see against some line-ups.

Did we ever get confirmation there wasn't a nagging injury or illness?
