Can Millsap spread the floor, play some SF?

Post#1 » by Ming Kong! » Wed Nov 10, 2010 6:04 pm

Is it me, or could Millsap play some SF? Could a lineup with Okur/Jefferson/Millsap playing alongside of Bell and Williams work? Think about, OK, he's not going to shoot 3/3 from behind the arc, nor make high level of difficulty shots every night, but he was averaging 21ppg before last night, he's shown the 18-20 foot range all year, and I'm sure after tonight he'll be incline to try the three a little more if left open. So could he play some SF, and spread the floor out too when he plays PF by causing his man to come out? Just seems to be that we can get even more from Millsap than we've been getting from him, and this could help Jefferson as well by leaving the paint a little less crowded.

BTW I'm not suggesting starting Millsap at SF, but spreading his minutes around so we could possibly give Jefferson more PT at PF, and therefore leaving more PT for Okur when he comes back.

With some match-ups, probably.

But how many SFs out there are slow enough for Sap to keep up with?

It's been tried before. Wasn't that effective.

Why not keep him where he's been beasting?

Lets not worry about Memos minutes until Memo shows he is back. He can take Elsons for now.

Sap is great where he's at.

Agreed. He's been our best, most consistent player by a mile. Let's not disrupt that by playing musical chairs (even though I don't think the suggestion is insane or anything).

Don't get too excited because he hit some 3's. Keep him where he is suppose to be unless match-ups require it.

I'll be very unhappy with Millsap if he starts setting up for 3s in anything but the most desperate situations (like being down 9 with 30 seconds left).

He's much better around the rim than he is from midrange. It would be a tragedy to see a bruiser like him turn into a jump shooter when he should be knocking people over to get offensive rebounds.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

We have all the tools to spread the floor. Raja Bell, Hayward, and Miles should be more then enough to give our bigs some extra room. They just aren't contributing at the moment.
