MN - NYK

There have been a lot of posts about Brewer trades. Love trades. Facilitating Melo trades. I say meh to all of these.

MN needs an athletic shotblocking front court player probably a guy who's more a 4 than a 5. I'm picturing a guy who could play with any of Pek, Darko, Love. Probably looking more for a guy who plays limited minutes probably around 20mpg every season. He's played in the dreaded triangle and a fast paced offense. He's also pretty good at sharing the ball. He's cheap, and not a long term commitment.

I offer you.

Turiaf for Capspace

Now that Shrink has let out a sigh of disgust at using 2 years of his Cap on Turiaf. Instead of cap we could go Ellington(3pt shooting for nyk) or Bassy(nyk connection), but I'd probably do it for straight cap space. Or one of the DEN facilitation scenarios. But whatever...

Darko + Turiaf? Lets darko face up where I think he's better suited. Good passing too. More blocks.

I just don't think Turiaf's defense is all that great. He's not really an upgrade to Tolliver, or not enough to make much of a difference IMO. And he has injury concerns as well.

When I saw "MN-NYK," I immediately thought "Here comes some knick fan offering something like

MIN GETS: Wes Chandler + Azubuike + Bill Walker + 2nd
NYK GETS: Kevin Love + rights to Rubio

.. and some line about "Everyone knows he'll never play in Minnesota!"

I was happy to see it was from bruce, who's posts I enjoy for their innovation and the depth of thought he's put in. I don't always agree with his trades, but I like the inventiveness, and he always gives me new things to think about.

I agree that a defensive big man may be worth investing some cap space in, but I'd prefer to use it as a base of an offer (we add assets) to get a player with more upside. I like where the train is going, but Turiaf is not my station.

So, regarding my position on using cap space for Turiaf:

Ronny's defense is not great? You do know know who he is do you?He's fantastic coming off the bench. He has great timing on blocking shots and rebounding, he is a leader on the floor and a likeable guy. Tolliver and Turiaf hold are no comparison.

I'd rather not trade him...Ellington is the most annoying shooting guard i've seen so far. Beasley would be nice but I'd rather not risk it.

I agree that Turiaf's defence isn't as big of an upgrade over Tolliver that he's worth adding tghe extra salary.

Turiaf is a nice player and a good guy, but why do we want him? How does he fit this squad?

Here's what I see for the wolves.

Tolliver is useful in limited minutes. He will probably get around 20 mpg for the next few years he is under contract. He's basicly a stretch 4. Love does what he does, but better. Tolliver might be a bit better defensively, but love is the better player. There's a handful of players who I think fit this role.

Josh Smith - Atl probably not gonna move him. Has a trade kicker too.
Tyrus Thomas - Just signed a new contract. We had interest in the past, but he's probably not on the block. Nor would our FO look to commit that type of salary

Turiaf gives the Wolves a shot blocking Forward\Center who finishes around the rim at a high % and is a decent distributer. There are 2 active players who:
Played more than 50 games
More than 2 AST/xMP
more than FG% > .500
more than 2 blk/xMP

He's also a vet and a great guy. He seems to be a good fit for something this team lacks. Plus he's on a cheap contract and doesn't need starter minutes to be effective. His game also meshes well with our other players and he has exposure to the type of offense we run.

I love it. Turiaf is a f*cking working man's hero. He comes off the bench with a glint in his eye and something to prove. He works hard and impacts the game around him. He does have triangle experience. He's got a clear mean streak without being an attitude problem or somebody who gets in trouble with the refs. Him and Beasley or Johnson or Webster on the floor together? The best kind of vicious.

Trade Bassy or cap space but keep Ellington around. He's not done growing as a player by a long shot.

What about Jason Thompson. Maybe something like Pekovic for him. I'm not sure how his defense his but, I have always thought he has potential and give him 20-25 minutes a game at PF, C and I think it would improve are team

Laker here and seeing that trade made me mad as hell. You had me thinking that a Knicks' fan was sending that offer.
