MAGIC WIZARDS BLOCKBUSTER
A deal that makes sense to me for both teams is Gilbert Arenas for Vince Carter.
Why?
Washington clears their backcourt and toxic contract of Arenas for an expiring in Vince Carter. He will help sell tickets, and clear a ton of future salary off their books.
Orlando acquires Arenas who could be their number one offensive option on a contender. If there is one team that isn't concerned about Gil's contract, it's Orlando. It opens their championship window a few more years, and could ultimately help convince Dwight to stay after his contract is up.
What do the fan bases think? I'm a Bulls fan, I realize how important it is to build around your franchise point guard (Wall).

You mean you don't post trade proposals in the trades and transactions forum?

This is good for Orlando how? Arenas is like Carter, but smaller, with a crappier contract, and more injury prone.

Extremely original trade idea.

VC hasn't been a legit #1 option since 06-07 when he lost his athleticism. Since when is Gilbert=VC, Gil has never played above the rim, he has always been a better offensive player than VC and still will be. All that being said, he just as good a playmaker as Nelson with a lot more scoring ability. I know Otis didn't want Gil's contract without seeing him first. I never heard that this wouldn't never happen. I wouldn't count this out if I was you. I think some ppl are more negative about a troubled player till they are proven wrong, ex. Michael Vick.

This trade was rumored to be on the table this summer, but Orlando wouldn't pull the trigger.
As with all Arenas trades, it's not worth discussing until Arenas proves that he is healthy and has regained some semblance of his prime form.

Arenas is done. It has nothing to do with him being a nutcase and everything to do with him being injury prone and unable to play at the level he once did.

You make it sound like we're talking about Steve Guttenberg here.

Same thing every year. Meanwhile, Washington had to have other players expire to get cap space while Arenas' contract keeps costing more $/yr affecting their cap worse and worse as time goes by.nate33 wrote:As with all Arenas trades, it's not worth discussing until Arenas proves that he is healthy and has regained some semblance of his prime form.
Last year you had to get rid of Haywood, Butler (or Howard), Jamison (or Ilgauskas), M. James, Foye, and Oberto.
This year, it looks like it is Howard, Thornton, Young, and Jianlian.

Actually, we only had to get rid of Jamison. We had the cap room to retain everyone else. But there's no point in retaining all those vets on a rebuilding team.

Precicely. There is no point to keeping Arenas on your team year after year after year after year after year after year after year. That is 7 years, right?nate33 wrote:But there's no point in retaining all those vets on a rebuilding team.
Just think...he could be gone if you include a Blatche for for Bass and/or Anderson swap.

I'm in favor of dumping Arenas. I'm not in favor of sacrificing actual young talent (Blatche, McGee, Wall, future 1st) to make it happen. Clearly, that is not in the best interests of a rebuilding team.
I'd rather have Arenas and Blatche and $17M in cap space in 2012 (our current projection), than neither one of them and $43M in cap space. What in the world are the Wizards going to do with $43M in cap space? What free agent would join a team with Wall, McGee and nobody else of note?
