A lot of the bottom feeder's need a pg, but a lot of bottom feeders need a SF too. It really depends on how well Kyrie and Harrison do as the season progresses.

Your boxscore must be slow

17 pts, 4 reb, 9 asts, 2 stl, 1 blk in his first debut, that's very VERY sick. Can't wait to see him faces an elite team.

All that with just one turnover as well

Posted this in another thread but it appears the conversation is here.

- Crisp passing, and smart. Seems to get it to the right player in the right spot.
- Quick but not blazing, combined with his handles he had some excellent plays leading the break, especially impressed with his passing in transition.
- Took a few dumb shots, and in general his shot is not falling.
- Defense was unspectacular. Perhaps he is just over thinking it, but he is always a step or two ahead of where he thinks his man will be, and it is getting exploited easily.

Just his first half of his first game, but so far it's promising but not mind-blowing. I am more impressed with Barnes so far.

Second Half-

-Shots from range started falling.
-More great decisions in transition, really runs the break well. Used his body to make contact and create space on a transition layup, was a surprisingly smart move for such a young player.
-More sub-par D.
- Had trouble breaking his man down off the dribble, tried a few times and could not get anywhere good. Does not have the speed to just blow by people.

Pros: Good quickness, good ball handle, didn't turn over much, very vocal, doesn't try to do too much, has a point guard mentality - pass to the right guy to score. He'll attack when he has to, and attacks with good body control. He has good shooting range, he'll hit 3 pointers (unlike Wall/Tyreke/Rose), defensively, he's aggressively, good hands, deflect couple passes, when he steals he'll start a fastbreak either go all the way to the basket aggressively or pass when he sees teammates open on fastbreak

Cons: Very unselfish, he can score anytime if he wants to, he can penetrate easily but he puts his team in first priority, he's facing a very week guard so it's uncertain how he'll respond when he faces guys like Brandon Knight or Selby. So far he doesn't show any weaknesses, so far so good

Really? From what i was reading from scouting reports before was that this was his part of the game that put him above the rest. I guess its just his transition floor game that puts him over the top right now... or it was just an off game in those areas.

He did "look" very committed on D. Never questioned his effort. It was the results that were shaky. His man got by him regularly, and he was lost whenever there was a high screen.

All in all it was a very good game for him.

Well folks, what did we learn today about Kyrie Irving? Well, it was just one game, and it was against an inferior Princeton team, but...

This guy has a lot of ability. From today's game, it looked like he can really be a pest on defence, has awareness on the court at all times, and I talked about this earlier, but his overall presence on the court is quite noticeable. I'd attribute that to a high Bball IQ.

Kyrie Irving is really competitive, and has leadership potential.

His PG capabilities are obvious, especially on the fastbreak. I'm not sure how he is in the halfcourt - we didn't really get a chance to see, b/c Princeton was in a zone for practically the whole game. His midrange game also needs to improve, but for his 1st NCAA game, I give him a thumbs up.

I can see why a lot of people are high on him. Very good debut for Kyrie Irving.

It's the first full game I've ever seen of him, and I have read the same things about his D at the high school level. Like I said he could just be over thinking it, the fact that he was too far ahead of his man at times is good in a way (ie he was beating himself rather than being beaten).

It will be an adjustment, but I wouldn't be surprised if improves quickly.

His size is going to be a problem when it comes to defense but his quick hands are good enough to help him deflect passes, couple times he got lost but hey it's his 1st game against college-level (even tho it's an inferior team). Defensively, he's quite impressive tho.

I thought he was very good defensivly. Especialy for his first game. He was quick, up in his man, and there was a couple really amazing rotations he made to close out that showed great defensive IQ in knowing exactly where to rotate, and where the opposition would go with the ball when Dukes D loaded up on the strong side.

Fair enough, there were probably some things he did well that I missed. Stream quality wasn't amazing. I also agree that his Bball IQ is very very high.

I don't doubt that he will be a good defender at the college level eventually, the next level.. ehhh we'll see.

Although I am not surprised that you and I saw the game with a different perspective, considering how differently we rate D Rose.

If I were to take a stab at where he will be at in the NBA in 5 years I would guess top 10 PG, but not top 5. Although this is all extremely early.
