Is Kobe a Top 3 Laker?

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Mon Nov 15, 2010 12:48 am

Is Kobe in the top 3 all time for the Lakers?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I grew up watching Magic, but I would say Kobe took the #1 Laker spot after last year. 5 titles, and most of the Lakers records put him at that spot.

Magic
Kareem
Kobe

Yes.

Or Magic/Kobe/Kareem.

When evaluating top x of a franchise, I take into consideration what the player means to the team/fanbase. Thats why I have Kobe ranked so high.

Not 1 person in Lakers fandom would put Shaq above West as a player and importance in Laker history.

Really? You grew up with the Magic man and you would say that Kobe is the greatest Laker ever?OMG.
Well Magic has 5 rings,3 MVP's,3 Finals MVP's with Lakers if you forget it.And he was a greater leader.
Kobe has Lakers records about scoring..So what? This mean that he is greater/better than Magic? :wavefinger:

First of all, how is Kareem a greater Laker than Magic at all, let alone on a completely different tier? There's no way to put Kareem over Magic as a Laker...for overall career sure, but outside of titles, most of Kareem's legacy was built with the Bucks.

he's pretty clearly top 3. It doesnt matter if you hate him, after Magic, Kobe has the best argument for number 2

This.

And yes, as far as the original question.
