2010 Battle of Sports Forums League (Season Complete!)

Post#1 » by Young_Star11 » Fri Oct 29, 2010 3:08 am

Myself, Curtis Lemansky, sly and sabonis are representing RealGM in the Battle of the Sports Forums league this season.

It is made up of 16 teams - four teams from four respective board forums.

RealGM got promoted to play this season, joining Fantasy Basketball Cafe, Fantasy Lounge and RotoKingdom.

What happens is that the forum that finishes last in cumulative rankings is dumped from the league for next season, even if that forum includes the championship-winning team (as happened last season).

It's a 16-team league, H2H, traditional 9-cat league.

Here are our teams:

SA Sugarkids - RGM
1. (5) Danny Granger (Ind - SF,PF)
2. (28) Carlos Boozer (Chi - PF,C)
3. (37) Troy Murphy (NJ - PF,C)
4. (60) Kevin Martin (Hou - SG)
5. (69) Antawn Jamison (Cle - SF,PF)
6. (92) Jason Terry (Dal - PG,SG)
7. (101) Leandro Barbosa (Tor - PG,SG)
8. (124) Reggie Williams (GS - SG,SF)
9. (133) Shawn Marion (Dal - SF,PF)
10. (156) Marvin Williams (Atl - SF,PF)
11. (165) Mehmet Okur (Uta - C)
12. (188) Peja Stojakovic (NO - SG,SF)
13. (197) Quentin Richardson (Orl - SG,SF)
14. (220) Anthony Tolliver (Min - PF,C)

A big blow to have Boozer and Murphy go down already, and his team is very injury-prone. But the team is deep and if/when it gets healthy, it will be very dangerous.

Istanbul RunNGun | RGM
1. (10) Deron Williams (Uta - PG)
2. (23) Chris Bosh (Mia - PF,C)
3. (42) Marcus Camby (Por - PF,C)
4. (55) Raymond Felton (NY - PG,SG)
5. (74) Kevin Garnett (Bos - PF)
6. (87) Greg Oden (Por - C)
7. (106) Lamar Odom (LAL - SF,PF)
8. (119) Jarrett Jack (Tor - PG,SG)
9. (138) Darko Milicic (Min - PF,C)
10. (151) Ramon Sessions (Cle - PG,SG)
11. (170) Jonny Flynn (Min - PG)
12. (183) Grant Hill (Pho - SG,SF)
13. (202) C.J. Watson (Chi - PG,SG)
14. (215) Ryan Gomes (LAC - SF,PF)

A team that will look weak because it won't do great in points, but elsewhere very solid. Oden is the X-factor here and can make Gokce a contender.

youngstar11 | RGM
1. (14) David Lee (GS - PF,C)
2. (19) Brook Lopez (NJ - C)
3. (46) Rudy Gay (Mem - SF,PF)
4. (51) Jason Richardson (Pho - SG,SF)
5. (78) Ray Allen (Bos - SG)
6. (83) Roy Hibbert (Ind - C)
7. (110) Beno Udrih (Sac - PG)
8. (115) Shane Battier (Hou - SF)
9. (142) Ben Gordon (Det - SG)
10. (147) Spencer Hawes (Phi - C)
11. (174) Travis Outlaw (NJ - SF,PF)
12. (179) Kyle Korver (Chi - SG,SF)
13. (206) Toney Douglas (NY - PG,SG)
14. (211) Jason Maxiell (Det - PF,C)

Lee, Lopez and Hibbert I like as a trio and I'm hoping for some better years from Gordon and perennial disappointments Outlaw and Hawes.

sly | RGM
1. (15) Gerald Wallace (Cha - SF,PF)
2. (18) Carmelo Anthony (Den - SF)
3. (47) Andrew Bogut (Mil - C)
4. (50) Andrei Kirilenko (Uta - SF,PF)
5. (79) Devin Harris (NJ - PG)
6. (82) Elton Brand (Phi - PF,C)
7. (111) Jose Calderon (Tor - PG)
8. (114) Andre Miller (Por - PG)
9. (143) Tayshaun Prince (Det - SF,PF)
10. (146) Josh Childress (Pho - SG,SF)
11. (175) Ronny Turiaf (NY - PF,C)
12. (178) Derrick Favors (NJ - PF)
13. (207) Anthony Parker (Cle - SG)
14. (210) Tracy McGrady (Det - SG,SF)

sly's gone for the tried-and-true approach, with all players taken in the 2005 draft or earlier (sans Favors). Much depends on health because there's no question his players can perform.

I'll keep you all updated with how we go.

my injured guys can kill RGM this year. Also Antawn Jamison sucks balls. I shouldn't have listened to what Curtis said and gone with KG or Ray Allen instead of Jamison =)

I'm not sure that Ray Ray or KG will be any better. Cleveland definitely seems like a fantasy wasteland thus far, though. Glad my boys got off to a decent start. I'm rockin' the all-injury team - put more focus on upside and proven talent. I didn't over analyze depth charts too much.... but am apparently putting more clout in the fantasy veterans of yesteryear.

Keep the faith...we're only three weeks into the season. Boozer shouldn't be too far away.

I've been doing it tough too with my first two picks (Lee and Lopez) hardly putting up top-100 value.

Nice recovery with a 7-2 win. Now sitting at 8th place though the top 12 teams are awfully close to eachother, separated only by 6.5 categories.

After being burnt by Oden, I decided to cut loose Flynn too. I waited almost one month for him but it appears like he wont come back before early December and wont be in full capacity until Christmas. Since he wasnt a standout to begin with, I cannot afford to hold onto him any longer especially when Korver was sitting on the wire. I'll probably take a look at Flynn again once Kaman comes back in a couple of weeks which would force me to drop DeAndre Jordan.

Nice to see Gokce coming to the party this week with a solid win. Having closure on Oden means you can perhaps stream that spot and/or go with the in-form player. Camby's value also firms. Flynn was taken rather late, so his loss isn't as bad as Oden.

sabonis was a little unlucky as he was up 7-2 at one point before losing. He's still really hurting without Okur and Boozer. Surely Boozer isn't too far away. He's taking on Guru this week in somewhat of a cripple fight, with Guru dragging the chain for the Lounge at the moment.

Craig battered me good this week - if any RealGM team was to take a beating, it may as well be to a fellow RealGM team. My team had an average week...though David Lee hasn't exactly set the world on fire, I miss his numbers. And GS is really struggling without him. Looking at the standings so far, I've played #2, #3, #4 and #7 in the first four weeks of the season...and I'm taking on #1 this week!

don't forget Murphy as well. I'm playing without my 3 centers. in 2-3 weeks Boozer is gonna return, Murphy will probably start to get minutes or get traded. I don't know about Okur, picking him even at 170ish might have been a mistake. we'll see.

about this last week: Curry got 2 blocks in the last game, that's why I lost. it was harsh

Yeah, yeah... I got a little excited when I saw sabonis up 7-2. I would have cut loose on Flynn as well, RNG. Hopefully ssabonis can continue creeping up in the standings. I would have considered cutting loose on Okur too; but, you're holding on without him. If he can get back by early December, than it'll be a good boost for you.

It's certainly tougher when there's no IL. I've been lucky with injuries thus far.

If Darko continues to play like this, it will offset the loss of Oden. Apparently Kaman will make an early comeback from his injury so I may be hitting the wire again sometime this weekend to replace DeAndre Jordan

Not bad at all, if Can can pick it up a little, we can be contending for the top spot. Apparently Boozer is coming back soon so that should help things a little. Jamison has been less terrible in the last weeks as well (130'ish after 170'ish start). Very impressive performance by Rotokingdom so far. Having 4 teams in top-7 is damn right outstanding.

My team is currently on upswing. Hopefully I'll get a win against CF, a rotokingdom team. Right now looking at cumulatives, my team is tied with CF with 4-4-1 and my 4 wins are pretty comfortable (rebounds, assists, steals and blocks) so barring something unexpected, I'm looking at a 4-5 loss at the worst case scenario. Hopefully I'll be able to swing a couple of other cats (Fg% is tied, points and turnovers are close, ft% is a bit too hard to catch on and 3's are a lost cat for me)

Had to cut Jack after he stunk up the joint in NOH so far. Also my gamble on Peja didnt pay off either. So in comes Livingston (great %'s and nice stretch of scoring in the last 4 games) and Marcus Thornton (had a decent outing yesterday against Spurs)

Almost there. Pretty good week overall, only problem was Sly's defeat at the hands of the lowly Scolastical. RK has taken a major hit this week. The competitiveness of the league is otherworldly, especially at the top of the standings where top-5 teams are separated only by 1 win. 3 of our teams are within top-5 so hopefully we will be able to keep at this level. With Boozer's return, Sugarkids are back in the game, having recorded its first win since the beginning of the season.

For my team, I made terrible use of my 2 alternating rosters spots, having wasted them on Livingston and Childress. Especially Childress lost me ft% this week by going 0-4 on Sunday. I ended up with .759 on FT% this week which would have been .782 if I simply didnt have him on my line-up on Sunday . That would have brought me another win over CF(RK). Now I have Ed Davis and Xavier Henry in their place.

Much appreciated update Gokce - I was about to do it.

The team ranked #13 (of 16) is just 6.5 GB the #1 team - I guess we couldn't have expected any different.

I limped to a 5-4 win over Guru, the team ranked last on the table. He made a great add in Farmar for four games, and even two men down, he pushed me to the brink. My team is struggling in the 'power' categories of rebounds, assists and steals. Now I move onto Sugarkids' this week - a guaranteed 9-9 for our team record regardless of the result.

Uggh; yeah, not my best of weeks. Harris and Bogut were injured for much of it. I've been hanging onto Turiaf as well, despite his injuries. I blew my percentages this week too, special thanks to Melo for his dud of a game yesterday. I'll get back on track...

Good job ssabonis! keep it up...

The regular season is now 35% complete...and as of now RealGM occupies the top-3 spots in the individual standings, and is leading the team standings!! This despite fairly underwhelming (5th, 9th, 14th and 15th) draft positions.

Though I must say I don't have great vibes about my team (despite the winning)...my team is a bunch of chuckers, and my top two picks (Lopez and Lee) are not living up to expectations.
