UFC 122: Okami v. Belfort

Post#1 » by SDM » Tue Sep 7, 2010 3:03 pm

Free via tape delay on Spike, November 13, 2010 at König Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany.

Vitor Belfort vs. Yushin Okami (winner gets title shot)
Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Goran Reljic
Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara
Amir Sadollah vs. Peter Sobotta
Jason Brilz vs. Vladimir Matyushenko
Rob Kimmons vs. Kyle Noke
Seth Petruzelli vs. Karlos Vemola
Dennis Siver vs. TBA
Kris McCray vs. TBA
Pascal Krauss vs. TBA

Some pretty good fights here. I'm going to take Okami, Reljic, Rivera, Brilz, and Sadollah in the main card.

Aside from Vitor's presence, this is a UFN. If free, that's entirely cool. The UFN's are usually awesome and filled with talent.

Some of my sentimental faves here. Amir, Petruzelli and Jorge.

I'm surprised that aside from Siver there are no LWs or even speedy WWs. From top to bottom, it's a lot of plodding muscle and very little agility. Is that somehow pleasing to Germans?

Card sucks, but its free so i'll check it out. Hope Okami wins this, the man deserved a title shot while back.

CC - amazed that you pre-judge a free event before it even happens.

Yes it does look a lot more like a UFN card (with Belfort added on) but there is alot of room for being a great card. Typically when the UFC does these "entire events of lesser names" they tend to put in exciting fighters and matchs ups (shock Joe Silva knows what he's doing ...) and it does make for a very entertaining evening.

The Okami vs Belfort fight provides a very big fight for the division, the winner either being in line or 1 fight away from a shot for a title (which could depend on the outcome of the Silva Sonnen rematch, as I doubt Okami would get a rematch vs Sonnen for example, where as Belfort would prob get a fight vs either two).

I have a lot of time for Amir, so glad to see him fighting again, hope to see a bit more out of him, he's been very up/down since the show, despite the likes of CB and Brown and Harris, all victims of his, having quite solid runs in the UFC.

The previews have Rivera vs Sakara as the 'sub-headliner'. Yikes. Sakara should not be getting preview time. He's terrible.

I know the boxing card took quite a lot of lustre off this card, but are there any thoughts?

- Ozipczak's weight cut might be too much for him. He's HUGE and he gassed out in the second. The beating he took in the last five minutes indicates that he has a fantastic chin (ate shot after shot from Ludwig, couldn't keep his hands up). If this cardio problem can correct itself, he'll be a force at 170, provided he can stay there.

- Siver looked like a killer, with a great sub.

- Rest of the card was meh. Rivera/Sakara was canceled last minute.

Gotta somewhat suck to lose your job over being hammer fisted by a neanderthal, though.

Yeah, but Seth is a journeyman who only got back to the UFC by being in the right place at the right time and beating Kimbo before people were smart enough to realize he was a bum.

I root for the guy cause he is from Orlando, but he has no business in the UFC. I hope with the WEC acquisition, the UFC will start cutting some of the fat in the other weight classes.
