Good. Now he doesn't have any insecurities and can simply go out there and do his thing. Numbers don't reflect it but McNabb has been a warrior for us. Much respect to the guy and he will only get better as he gets used to Shanny's system more.

So, he's worth $40M guaranteed, but not good enough to run the 2 minute drill with the game on the line?

LOL, who knows if McNabb even thinks he's worth that much.

Lol.
Only McNabb can turn a benching into a contract extension / more money.
Did exactly the same with the Eagles.
He must have an awesome agent.

+1. He should be kissing his agents ass right now, because his play this year certainly didn't get him that extension.

Break it down for a minute:
$40M guaranteed, likely for 3 years with the 4th a voidable/mutual option. That's $13.3M per year for 3 years for a multi-time Pro Bowl QB. Consider the salaries of some others; all this money is per year average of the guaranteed part of their contracts, not necessarily what they will actually make this year or any one year:

Tom Brady $22M/yr
Eli Manning $21.2M/yr
Jay Cutler $19.7M/yr
Philip Rivers $23.8M
Drew Brees $14.3M
Matt Stafford $11.25M
Sam Bradford $12.25M
Matt Schaub $15M
Jamarcus Russell will earn $8M this year from the Raiders
Matt Leinart will earn $6.25M this year

Peyton Manning is due a new deal this offseason. Expect it to be in the neighborhood of 5 yr/$150M with at least $100M guaranteed. Don't forget he's given back over $12M in various restructurings.

Really the McNabb deal isn't bad. It's the timing that makes it so strange. They've been working on it for a long time, ever since he got there. The prevailing wisdom is that GM Bruce Allen sealed the deal when he did to show Shanahan he's in charge and not just a figurehead puppet. Not sure I buy that but that is the way Bruce Allen operated in the past. He is the guy who offered Keyshawn an extension/shut up money a week before Gruden sent him away.

Owners like Dan Synder, Al Davis and Jerry Jones treat their real NFL teams like fantasy football teams, and until they're no longer in power, their franchises will not live up to potential.
Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed.

none of those guys were anywhere close to 34 years old when they signed their deals except for Tom Brady who is significantly better than McNabb. it would be one thing to pay a young qb and hoping him to develop into a great one but giving 5 year big money deal to a qb who is obviously in downturn of his career is mind boggling.

That's the part that makes my head spin. I interpret it as a message to McNabb that he is The Man, now get in better shape and devote yourself to being The Man. There's no reason he can't play at or near his current level for another 2-3 years, but he's at best the 6th best QB in the NFC. They found out last night (all season really) their defense isn't good enough to win with a slightly above-average QB. That 2-3 years buys them enough time to develop Cam Newton after they blow their 1st round pick on him this year 8-)

Two other points:
--Dan Snyder doesn't have to worry about eating $27M if it doesn't work out next year. He's got that much in his titanium toilet tanks, all 11 of them at his summer home which he spends exactly 9 days at every year.
--They're taking a gamble that there won't be a cap again, and if there is that there will be some leverage for situations like this. I disagree with both of those assumptions.
