We need to go after Magic Randolph

Post#1 » by NewWolvesOrder » Tue Nov 16, 2010 2:14 pm

Kahn & Ronzone were high on him this summer and even recently were reported interested in adding an athletic 4/5 player. Randolph is not getting any burn in NY, looks like D'Antoni is giving him some Darko treatment. Now is the time to get him, his value is not too high and can only go up from here.

Love, Milicic, Tolliver and now Randolph ( 21 yo), Pekovic and Koufos can start to look for work. Except injuries, they will not play more than 3 or 4 minutes.

I don't know. I wouldn't be willing to give up anything of quality right now, and the Knicks probably don't want to give him away yet. What would you be willing to offer?

Tolliver plus Mem' pick and maybe Utah pick if knicks stand firm and don't bite. And before people cry about the picks I want to say that we are young enough and don't need a to add 2 more rookies that may not be good considering that both picks won't be in the lottery. Utah pick is pretty useless because Utah is good team and 2011 draft projected to be short on talent. Memphis pick is the only value in the deal. Tolliver is bench player while Randolph has talent to be a really good player.

I agree that Anthony Randolph is an excellent "buy low" candidate right now, and he has the upside to fit the Kahn mold.

I bet we could get him as part of a Melo trade, if we were willing to use our cap space to turn Curry into cap space.

I'd move both those middle to late first rounder for him, but I'd be sort of worried about Love, Beasley, Randolph, and Webster all having to be extended about the same time.

We got some pieces we can move, especially, when Flynn and Webster return. However, if he's not working out in NY, then I'm not sure he's going to fit here outside of a role (currently held by Tolliver).

I think he's currently injured, but I assume we'll check into his availability one way or another.

We can resign Webster in 2013, but first let see if he can stay healthy. You know, those Blazers drafted players are all falling apart lately.

D'Antoni doesn't play young bigs who can play defense. I can't stand this guy. I hate him.

I doubt a Melo deal is around the corner. The best way to get this done soon would be a simple.

randolph for 2m cap + the 2 picks

Then if a deal for melo ever gets to a more evolved state for NYK. They can trade back those picks to MN for the cap space & curry.

Meh. I'm not sold on Randolph. I've focused on him in the Knicks games I've seen, and frankly I wouldn't play him either right now. He is young and athletic and tall, yeah, but so is Ryan Hollins. Boy, he was amazing, wasn't he?

You shouldn't be sold, but Randolph did have decent production in his limited playing time with Golden State. It would be a lot like the other risks we've taken with Darko, Beasley and Webster.

I hate when people compare Hollins to guys like Randolph or McGee. Hollins is total scrub, no skills at all, weak, dumb. He's a good track & field athlete who can dunk a ball, he's no basketball player.

Agreed. I wouldn't offer much more than Koufos plus one of the Mem/Utah picks.

Both picks for Anthony Randolph straight up. Essentially we would've traded Al Jefferson for Anthony Randolph then but that seems like a possibility to put us in a great position regarding the future.

Rubio/Flynn/Luke
Johnson/Webster/Ellington
Beasley/Brewer/Hayward
Love/Randolph/Tolliver
Darko/Pekovic/Randolph
That would be a quality lineup to build around in the future. And we still have a top 10 pick this season who can be paired with one of those core players to land a stud or just upgrade a position of need (probably C).

If he could be had cheaply, I'd go for him. But I also don't know if that's what the front office has in mind for those 2 picks. I'm really expecting we go for someone like Iggy, Granger, Monta (Someone who fits the "good expensive talent on a team that wants to start over" mold) with our talent and picks. I'm not sure if I'd give up those 1st rounders just yet, because of what we might be able to get at the deadline.

I would deal for him. Depending upon what NY would ask for in return... The Memphis and Utah picks seem like a good start for sure, it would create a big log jam for us though. I would be willing to deal Pekovic/Koufos as well, just because of the jam we have of okay players on the bench..

Flynn-Ridnour-Telfair-Gaines
Wes-Brewer-Ellington
Beasley-Webster-Hayward
Love-Tolliver
Darko-Pekovic-Koufus

Maybe we could swing them Telfair since he's the odd man out, they really don't need him though...but he's from NY, has a small expiring, and I think he's a solid backup.

Fixed it for you.

I agree he's a good buy-low candidate. I just get the feeling he's got the bbiq of gerald green. For all the crap that Beasley took, no one ever accused him of having a low BBIQ, he knows the game pretty well. Randolph, on the other hand has been held back largely because of his inability to process things while on the court and his love for (and proficiency for missing) long jumpers.

I wouldn't send both picks for him. I'd give them capspace and the utah pick.
Taking on Curry just for Randolph is out of the question, he doesn't have near that kind of value.

Would be interesting to see an all-lefty frontcourt though. We could add Mo Pete and Dragic and roll with an all-lefty lineup.

He'd have to bring as much energy off the bench as Tolliver, as that's what we need right now, but if he can be had for cheap I don't see why not.

I'm skeptical about his IQ like some of you but I wonder how much it has to do with the coaches he's had. Something seemed to happen early on between him and Nelson that neither recovered from and D'Antoni hates raw players, look at how he and Amare were earlier in their careers. Maybe with a decent coaching staff that actually wants to develop him and a high character locker room he might succeed.

I get the feeling he can be a nice player, just needs to play for a coach that'll just let him go out and do his thing w/o putting too much on his plate...which isn't Rambis, so thats a bummer
