NOH and Chicago are only being mentioned under the assumption that Melo is traded by the deadline. In a trade they can both offer a max extension.

But if Melo waits until the summer - I got it at 99% he signs in NY.

Well yeah, if Melo makes it all the way to the summer w/out an extension, he's going to NY. I wouldn't even put it at 99%. It's a 100%.

NY fans who are arguing that he would absolutely not go to NOH or Orlando or Dallas or whatever team swoops in to try and trade for him before the deadline...I'm not saying any of these destinations are preferred. But what we have to fear is would Melo settle for one of these locations that would give him the security of an extension while still allowing him to play with an established superstar like Paul, Dwight, or Dirk?

I personally was never concerned about NJ cause I didn't see any reason why Melo would be willing to lock himself into a lineup with just Brook Lopez and Devin Harris, and be stuck in Newark while waiting for a move to Brooklyn. But on a team with legit championship potential? I can't be so sure.

Basically, I'm reminded of when Rasheed Wallace all but promised that he'd sign with NY when he was a FA in Portland. Then he gets traded as an expiring to Atlanta. And gets shipped again to Detroit, wins a championship, and completely forgets his vows to us.

And to add - He 's likely signing a deal with an opt out after year three. He could go to Dallas - win two titles and still have the flexibility to move on.

Yeah - but Chris Paul only plays for one of those teams.

You really think he didn't know that?

You actually think we saw that and said "YEAH I KNOW WHAT IMMA DO NOW! *calls up ESPN*

Actually, Lebron to NY was a lot closer to happening than people realize. His camp almost had him convinced, but he always had his weak heart set on Miami.

His choice was made before Wade and Bosh put pen to paper. It's not like he turned on ESPN and say Wade/Bosh taking about teaming up in Miami and decided to do the same.

It was planned out from day 1. LeBron had NY still on his mind, but he went with the plan for Miami. Everything else in between was shitz n giggles.

Pretty much.

Melo is still likely to think Amar'e + himself = contender. I'm not saying I agree. I'm saying that's what a top player like himself will feel.

Plus we all know he wants NY. Everybody knows that. Even Bulls fans who hate the Knicks.

HIS choice was made. His camp and Nike were always against it. Like I said, they almost had him convinced, but in the end he did what he wanted.

Thank You. Anytime he was asked, he never denied it either. I have no idea where Bulls, Hornets or even Mavs come from.

Howard is not looking to sign an extension right away either. I guess Chicago gets him now.

All things being equal - I don't think anyone would doubt that. It will be interesting to see if Anthony decides to play out the season and got to the summer as an UFA.

wade, lebron, bosh, chris paul and carmelo are all represented by the same agency. it wouldn't surprise me if paul and anthony find a way to be on the same team.

Only if West opts out and signs elsewhere...and also than they would have only around 16 mil free if Salary cap stays at 58 mil.

David West IS going to opt out, he is vastly underpayed. Also by declining Jason Smith and Marco Belineli's option they will have over 20 million in capspace.

He'll be traded first. It's a matter of a team be willing to trade for him without promise of extension. If not, then he will go to the team of his choice.

No they are not. Decline guys that made the Hornets 8-0 is stupid. Marco is the third leading scorer for them.

If NY gets Melo in a trade, you really think he's going to leave for a NOH team?

Marco is not there 3rd leading scorer....

Also they would only have to decline Smith for max money.

Other than the overrated bourbon street, there is nothing new orleans can offer that NY does not. I imagine you have never been there.

And Cafe Au Lait is nothing but coffee with lots of milk.

again, that NY marketing angle is overrated: CC sabathia came to NY, LED the team to a ring, and pretty much it leads him to get subway commercials

NOH advantages
1) winning
2) coach that emphasizes D
3) former players not making disparaging remarks bout that former team
4) his good buddy paul

#4 can be cancelled out with Amare, but the first 3 things hold true

so for the camp putting down NOH as a option, how do you counter 1-3? aside from the "marketing" aspect

I think Melo's mind is more open than some people think. He could go different places if the situation is right. But not just any place.

It is a crap shoot BUT Knicks are his clear choice in a perfect world and D'Antoni is someone he wants to play for (unfortunately).
