Kickers

Post#1 » by Celtics_Champs » Tue Nov 16, 2010 7:55 pm

Why do kickers get such a short lease in the NFL?

http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nfl/ne ... id=5813026

-I thought Jeff Reed was one of the best in the game. He misses a kick sunday at the torn up heinz field, when you had shayne graham miss an extra point too, they cut reed, and sign suisam.

-Garret Hartley kicked the saints to the super bowl, next season he misses a regular season kick and he almost loses his job.

-Gostowoski stepped in after Adam Vinatieri left and was a rock, he misses a few earlier in the seaosn and they bring in Graham and Suisam to try out. In the end they didn't cut gosto, (he got hurt and ended up signing Graham) but still.

I just don't get point of cutting kickers like it's no big deal.

Yeah I agree, it seems odd. I remember when mike vanderjagt left the Colts as the most accurate NFL kicker in history and lasted 1-2 seasons after that and was never heard of again

vanderjagt didnt help his case that he sucked in dallas and was a world class ass hole, nobody was sad to see him go in dallas (or in indy for that matter)

and hartley's always been an iffy kicker, sure he made some big kicks last year but he's fairly inconsistent

idk how reed's done this summer but this is a bit suprising, and i have a hard time believing shaun freakin suisham's better. no matter, reed's a massive tool

That was Reed's 8th miss of the season, granted he has been playing at Heinz Field for a while where it's hard to kick. One of them was like a 26-yarder for goodness sake. Obviously the team felt it was time to part ways.

When all you do at practice is kick a ball your expected to be good at it so if your missing chip shot field goals then your gone, and were seeing a lot of that this year where kickers are missing kicks that they should be making with ease thatsnwhy most of them are getting cut, doesn't matter what they did in the past, it's your job kick the ball through the posts

I would have cut Jeff Reed just for being a world class douchebag.
