Thank God We Chose Shannon Over Bell

Post#1 » by Kobe » Wed Nov 17, 2010 4:05 am

There was alot of speculation in the offseason that the Lakers would sign Raja Bell over Shannon.

Well thank God that did not happen.

ShanWow is currently averaging 10.3 points on 49.4 percent shooting, Brown is also shooting 47.1 percent from the 3 point line all while playing under 20 minutes.

Bell on the other hand has played horrible. He is averaged only 7 points, on an atrocious 35.9 percent from the field and 28 percent from the 3 point line.

Just another great decision by Mitch.

Some of Mitch's best decisions :

Bring back Fisher in 2007.

Refusing to trade Kobe in 2007.

Refusing to trade Bynum in 2007.

Trading for Trevor Ariza in 2007.

Trading for Pau Gasol in 2008.

Trading for Shannon Brown in 2009.

Signing Ron Artest and letting the demanding Ariza go in 2009.

Signing Blake and Barnes and resigning Brown in 2010.

How in the world was the username "Kobe" still available?

As for the topic, we didn't choose Shannon over Bell. We threw an offer at Bell and he declined, and it didn't seem as if anyone else was really interested in Brown (Knicks had some interest, but nothing ever fell through).

Raja usually shoots extremely well in the playoffs, and he's a much smarter defender (not nearly as athletic though), so he would have been an excellent role player for us.

We were actually pretty damn fortunate that things turned out the way that they did (getting SB after all else failed).

Having said that, Brown's been awesome. If he keeps this up then he's going to mess around and get a starting job over Fisher.

Ehhhh, i'd be weary starting him over Fisher, Brown can go into Black Hole mode every once in a while and completely stop ball movement.

Fisher does that as well, only we never reap any rewards because he botches the easiest plays.

I think for this particular acquisition ,
we need to be more grateful to Jerry West more so than Mitch.

I always give Mitch his props.

But in this scenario(PAU for KWAY-MEH BROWN?!?) it ain't no secret it was Jerry West.

Shannons ballin' out of his mind right now but I am still not a fan of the Blake/Brown/Kobe lineup.

It will work against teams like the Bucks, Warriors, Raptors , Nets, EXT.
But Kobe banging with forwards isn't the best thing for him I think.

I dont think Jerry even worked for the grizzlies when Pau was traded.

Technically this trade was Vladimir Radmanovic for Adam Morrison, with some scrub (Shannon Brown) thrown in to make the deal work.

It didn't become the Shannon Brown trade for a while  Mitch still deserves props for it though.

Barnes was the result of Raja falling through, not Brown. But yeah, both Barnes and Brown > Raja Bell

And I'd like to keep Brown away from point guard as much as possible.

Also, give Mitch props for drafting Andrew Bynum with the #10 pick in '05 out of high-school.

Also, give Mitch props for drafting Marc Gasol with the #48 pick in '07, which directly led to the Pau Gasol trade (of which Jerry West had no part in whatsoever).
