2011 Draft Prospect Thread

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Tue Nov 16, 2010 5:11 pm

Time to fire this bad boy up I guess.

Perry Jones and Baylor are playing at 2:00pm today. Wont get to see that one. Pity because they are playing La Salle and Aaric Murray - a big I am really interested in.

Looking forward to seeing Jarred Sullinger of Ohio State (sorry Fats) play tonight Vs Florida at 6:00pm.

I was hoping to be flicking between that game and the Georgia Vs Colorado games but Trey Thompkins is still out with a high ankle sprain so it might not be worth watching. In saying that, it might be nice to see Alex Burks of Colorado and what he can do.

Duke is playing Miami at 7:30pm. Be good to check out Irving.

All in all, a pretty good night to watch prospects.

Are there any far and away clearly top 5 picks out there I should watch?

I don't think it makes much sense to seek out clear-cut top 5 picks, because we are probably going to be picking between 10-16.

Harrison Barnes is probably the only one who is definitely going top-5.

@Slam - Trey isn't the only one worth watching for Georgia. Travis Leslie (I've mentioned him before) is a first-round prospect as well. But, with Hendo, I couldn't see us taking him if he declared this season.

For my Gamecocks, Sam Muldrow has emerged this year as a possible draft candidate. He developed a three-point shot (a bit crude) last year. Solid defender, offensive potential, he reminds me of a better Renaldo Balkman. Probably a 2nd rounder, but as with Balkman, someone might reach for him this year.

My 3 guys this year:

Guard = Malcolm Lee (honorable mention: Tyshawn Taylor/Jacob Pullen)
Wing = Harrison Barnes (honorable mention: Elias Harris/Klay Thompson)
Big = JuJuan Johnson (honorable mention: Trey Thompkins/Marcus Morris)

Muldrow is a bum.

Any word on where Enes Kanter will be playing in Europe since the NCAA ruled him ineligable for KY?

I watched the Jared Sullinger/Buckeyes game.

He looked fantastic. Ended up with 26/10/2 and 2 steals - and he was going up against some pretty big dudes so it wasn't like he was just beating up on small guys.

It's obviously only been one game, but my take away is:

- He understands space and how to create it very, very well. He knows how to use his rump and his width to seal off his defender and create space for him to score. He also understands how to create space (lanes) for team mates to drive into just by positioning himself.

- He is excellent on the low block and shooting over both shoulders.

- He does a great job of recognizing and passing out of a double.

- They didn't run a single P&R for him (which was a shame, would have been good to see)

- He's not athletic, but he seems to have really long arms which really helps him on the boards.

- He's an emotional player with fist pumps etc when he or his team mates score. Not in an obnoxious way, in a good way.

He was very, very impressive.

If we fall into the lottery, I'm looking for us to target Kyrie Irving. The guy looks great so far playing for an elite team. He's a Chris Paul type PG.

If we make the playoff, we should definitely look at Aaric Murray (C). He has great size, good shot blocker, and a great shooting big man. In terms of need, Murray would be a wiser choice since our C's are past their prime.

In his second year of college, Murray is improving his game in every aspect. So far he's averaging 18pts, 8.5rebs, 2.5 blks, 2.5 stls, and shooting .552. I heard he can shoot the 3s, but haven't seen it yet.

I'm really interested in watching Murray too hhvo. I hope he's not Primoz like (more a pick and pop type big)? I really want a low post big - mainly because T2 is more a pick and pop type big.

Honestly I think the FO looks at any C in the draft they can. Mohammed's contract is up at the end of the year right? He'll hopefully become cheaper, and maybe they can find a guy to take some minutes from him right away.

Slam - Murray doesn't seem to be the post player you're looking for, but would be a replacement for Nazr... with better D, I hope.

C prospects are pretty slim in the 2011 Draft, like many other draft. Our best bet to getting a Starting C is through the up coming FA. Marc Gasol anyone?!

I think they're going to sign gasol. It seems they're letting randolph go? I don't know, but I'm pretty sure they're keeping Gasol.

Doesn't mean Gasol wants to resign with them though... and I doubt he will.

Sullinger is looking like a great prospect so far, another guy that has been playing well (but is under the radar) is UCLA F Reeves Nelson, and also cant forget my boy CJ Leslie (who would not fill our needs but is a beast)

Another kid Im starting to love, and wish would rebound more? Omar Carter of APP State
