Matt Barnes on the offense

Post#1 » by Slava » Wed Nov 17, 2010 6:24 am

Anyone else surprised by his all round game?

He was a tenacious defender in Golden State with a bit of athleticism and they featured him as a swing man defender and spot up shooter in Orlando and Phoenix but he's truly showing his all round game here isn't he?

His tough rebounding and hustle is for everyone to see but he seems like a much better ball handler, leading the break more than once with the 2nd unit and a more than average passer. He's made some really nice plays driving and dishing out to Shannon or Blake.

Is it down to Phil Jackson giving him more freedom to express his talent offensively or have I just not watched him closely enough for a good part of his career?

I'm sure the emergence of Ariza, Shannon and now Barnes pretty much dispels Radmanovic's claims that the triangle offense doesn't do much for the role players.

true that, but we all pretty much knew Vlad Rad wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, he didn't earn the nickname "space cadet" for nothing.

for whatever reason i havent noticed any Matt Barnes failures, he's shooting 29% from 3, but it doesn't feel like that at all, im really impressed with how he's been playing here in LA. Ron Artest comes out, and we bring in Ron Artest lite. :)

Yeah that's because he's limiting his 3s, much like Ariza did before Craig Hodges worked his magic on him. One more thing that needs to be added is that he seems like a fairly good IQ player. Not the loose cannon that you'd expected of him from his previous encounters.

When Baron Davis went out he practically played point for GS for a while and did all kinds of stuff. Always liked his game and he's a much smarter guy then he 'appears' to be. Tattoos still don't always give off the best impression but he plays a nice game. Passes well, moves off the ball well, rebounds well, perfect fit for this team too.

I've been a huge Matt Barnes fan ever since his days at UCLA with Jason Kapono. He's the perfect role player- willing to do the dirty work, while not being detrimental to the team's success.

I know a lot of Laker fans were upset over signing him, but I knew he'd fit in perfectly. It's great that he's flourishing in our system.

Well.. when he was signed, I was on a different forum and the general consensus there was that it was a bad signing because of his "attitude problems". It was sort of like when we signed Artest.

thats a pretty lame position for fans to take, especially with a player like artest already on the team. just watching how barnes stood up to kobe is reason enough to be happy with the signing.

Good info. Never knew that part. You'd think Ellis would be the major ball handler in that situation.

I'm excited to see how Matt will respond to when we play Boston this season.

Pierce destroyed him and the Magic in the ECF last season.
Now that Matt got RON and KOBE on his side ,
I'm sure he's Highly motivated this time around to destroy Paula and the C's.

YESSIR!

As long as Phil and Kobe are here, I don't worry about attitude problems. Phil managed to handle Rodman and Kobe is Kobe.
