Alonzo Gee waived !

Post#1 » by franktony » Tue Nov 16, 2010 9:29 pm

http://www.nba.com/spurs/news/spurs_wai ... 01116.html

Now we only have 12 players. So, we have 2 weeks to find a player to fill the 13th spot.

any chance to bring Finley back ? We all know Pop loves him

Or maybe Hayes ?

Thoughts guys?
Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

Finley would def. be a good pick up... I'd even love to see Dampier here.

Well this is kinda of a suprise. I really thought we were going to hang onto him.

I really wouldn't be suprised if we resign Finley now.

Actually, with Chris Quinn we have 13 players. Obviously he is not a long-term prospect and will likely be waived sooner than later so the question remains who will fill that void. I'd rather see Jarvis Hayes as someone suggested than Finley who didn't look like he has much left in his tank a year ago and hasn't been playing since so I can't imagine him looking better than that. Maybe we will bring Bobby Simmons back, he has the advantage of spending the pre-season with the team and will be easier to work into the rotation.

I'm quite surprised at this. Temple was thought to be Pop's new favorite player and he got waived. Curtis Jerrells IMO performed the best in preseason and he got traded. Gee was arguably our best player in summer league with his RJ-lite performance and he's now waived.

The good thing is that it's still early in the season and it wasn't likely that we'll be counting on these guys to play regular rotation minutes. But to me, they were young, showed good things, and earned extended stay. Have to see who we bring in. I definitely do not like the Quinn signing. Or maybe just "Not yet".

I'm pretty sure we only have 12

Parker/Hill/Quinn
Manu/Neal
Richard Jefferson/James Anderson
Blair/Mcdyess/Bonner
Duncan/Splitter

We waived Simmons/Temple and now Gee.
That's why i said we have two weeks to find a new player. The minimum number of players of a NBA team is 13.

cheers

Looking at that, we need a SF. I really don't know a better SF candidate right now than Bobby Simmons and Alonzo Gee.

Simmons will be back..
Spurs like this "going out of the team and re sign later" thing..We did it with Brent Barry and RJ..

We definitly need a SF, but if Pop is going to play RJ as a Center (as he did against OKC) maybe this SF will be a 6'2 guard..lol

I never realized we waived Temple... Did we? If so, we have 12 guys indeed and one of them (Quinn) is not gonna stay for too long either... I really hoped Temple can see some playing time but it looked like Pop lost his confidence in him after one of the games (I think it was the Hornets game). Looking forward to the Bulls game tonight anyway. I really have no idea who we are bringing but I hope at least one of the new guys is a veteran a la Simmons/Hayes...

I would like to see Dampier as well... I don't think anyone saw the Danny Green signing coming so there's always a chance right?

I doubt we are trying to get Dampier mainly because many teams were linked to him but we were never one of them. The thing is that I don't see how we can guarantee him minutes in the rotation if everyone is healthy. We had a similar guy on last season's roster in Ratliff but we let him go halfway through the season and I really think Ratliff was at a point of his career where he was content with being the last guy off the bench as well as a couple of fouls against guys like Shaq, Howard, etc. I'm not sure that's what Dampier wants though...

Dampier wouldn't want to come here unless he doesn't mind being the 3rd string Center. I think the Spurs are higher on Splitter than on Dampier. Bigs are not what we're lacking right now. We're severely weak on perimeter depth, especially if we're gonna play RJ at PF for several minutes each game.
