Player of the Game (Wizards vs. Raptors, 11/16/2010)

Post#1 » by GilArenas88 » Wed Nov 17, 2010 5:34 am

I'm new with this and don't have the patients to figure out how to add a poll or how to add pictures at the moment (Willing to hear some tips tommorrow). But here is your player of the game thread. Sorry for the poor effort.

Andray Blatche

22 points 7 rebounds 5 assist 3 steals 4 turnovers 9-13 field goals

Gilbert Arenas

20 points 7 rebounds 6 assist 1 steal 3 turnovers 7-14 field goals 3-6 3pt fields goals

Nick Young

20 points 6 rebounds 1 steal 2 turnovers 8-15 field goals

Kirk Hinrich

13 points 12 assist 4 rebounds 2 turnovers 5-8 field goals

Javale McGee

8 points 9 rebounds 4 blocks 0 turnovers 3-7 field goals

Guess will have to hand count the vote!

I'd say it's a close race between Gil and Hinrich, but I'll give the nod to Gil.

It was really quite close and you could pick the 3 guy first, but I'd say.....

1. Kurtis - Just really shredded them with an incredibly efficient attack. His change of pace drives were a real revelation in their effectiveness and he pulled off some very advanced passes.
2. Gil - Looking very confident, heady and smooth. Not sure about him attacking the basket, though.
3. Dray - Too many turnovers and needs to improve the D, but a nice approach tonight offensively by taking it inside and looking for the open man. Also, he gritted it out.

I'd probably give honorable mention to Javale over Nick because he came out with a lot of fire in there and tried to play physically whereas Nick just got hot more than anything. He had about seven boards in 9 minutes and then fell off, but he was concentrating on boxing out and assorted dirty work. Probably better effort than execution there, but it was still a respectable showing.

1. Gil
2. Blatche
3. Hiney

The real POTG was the Toronto defense.

I'm glad somebody else noticed this. Kent really surprised me with his aggressive drives to the basket. It seemed like nobody on either team expected it. Overall, he played a very nice game, but I also have to agree with willbcocks that Kent pounds the ball too much. He was good, but not as good as his numbers.

I'm going to give my POTG award to Nick Young. Yes, he cooled off and got a bit shot happy in the 2nd half, but by then, we had blown the game open. Young was the difference in the first half. That second unit was pretty ghastly on offense when Arenas and Blatche were on the bench. Young basically carried the offensive load by himself. Without him, we might have had a 5-minute scoring drought.

Arenas was 2nd on my list and Hinrich 3rd. Honorable mention to Blatche for the numbers he posted despite being hobbled by the knee. But as others have already stated, Blatche's performance was largely attributable to the woeful Toronto defense.

1. Young
2. Arenas
3. Hinrich

Kurt for POTG.

Gilberto De La Renas is the runner up.

Kirk made some seriously boneheaded plays with the ball. Was he good? Yeah. POTG? Nope.

This is between Gil and Nick. I'd go for Nick because he was the catalyst for giving us separation.

Gil for the 3rd qtr effort alone, he caught fire. Raps could never recover from it.

Rico, I with you on the Armstrong nomination he gave quality mins when McGee picked up the 4th. I wouldn't give it to him but he should be listed.
Good attempt at the thread tho Gil88, im an (88'er?) myself

I know one guy who expected it: Calderon. I had always heard he was bad on defense during arguments over Calderon/Gil trades that the Tiny Dino fans post on the trade board, but it was even worse than I thought. Turn your back, dribble to one side, dribble to the other, then go to the basket and that dude is hypnotized.

I vote for Gil POTG. Big steals, boards, and playmaking and set the tone early. Kip's pounding was easier to take knowing gil only needs a 2 second shot clock...

The Jose only played for 17 minutes and Kirk was also able to attack Jarret Jack, who's known as a good defender. I think Kurt's approach made sense with the overall basketball IQ on the team and guys like Thornton and Nick not being functional decision makers.

I can accept that he was ball dominant, but it wasn't out of step with what I've seen from Flip's points in general.

I remember it like it was yesterday when Raps fans were telling us how Jose > Gil.
