Wiz Sign Alonzo Gee, Pg 2 (WAS: We've got a situation here:)

Post#1 » by Hoopalotta » Wed Nov 17, 2010 7:40 pm

Looks like I'm up well past my bedtime

SAN ANTONIO, TX (Nov. 16, 2010) – The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have waived guard Alonzo Gee. Gee appeared in five games this season, totaling 2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks in 17 minutes.

Gee was signed by the Spurs as a free agent on March 29, 2010 and was later assigned to the Austin Toros of the NBA Development League on April 8, 2010.

The roster now stands at 12.

What would be REALLY cool is if he got waived becasue he's the reason Eva Longoria is leaving Tony Parker.

Three choices:

1. Sign Gee as our 15th player
2. Sign Gee and waive Cartier Martin
3. Do nothing

I'd sign him and waive Martin to keep a roster spot open for an emergency acquisition. I like Martin, but if Nick Young continues to play this well, Martin isn't really needed. I'd rather have Gee who is bigger and more of a pure SF.

I suppose we could sign him now and then wait until December 31st to waive Martin. Martin isn't a guaranteed contract until then. (At least, I think Dec. 31st is the date.)

I'd rather sign Gee, waive Hudson and then potentially trade Nick Young.

I agree with all of the above except for trading Nick.

I want to hang on to NY for a bit.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

I suppose we could waive Hudson too. With Wall, Hinrich and Gil around, the need for a 4th string PG is minimal. And calling Hudson a "PG" is generous. The kid is a baller, but he ain't a point guard.

I'm open to trading Young, but I wouldn't just give him away. It's tough to plan around it until we have some idea of what offers are on the table. Ideally, we trade Young for another young swing man, preferably with a contract that expires in 2012.

I like that plan - except for the waiving of Hudson. He could come in handy.

Come to think of it - why did they cut him? :-?

The Spurs like Danny Green more (signed) and James Anderson is out for a while. That's what the Spurs do, they constantly look to upgrade their role-players....looking for even better steals.

I say pass on Gee and nab Magum Rolle before someone else does, we have Martin already and he's a good soldier.

They still have only 13 guys on the roster, I think. I'm a big Green fan, but if I were them, I'd just cut Simmons, but maybe he's got a guarantee?

Magnum Rolle, Al Gee, Cartier... these names sound like aliases. If they had normal names, they wouldn't get cut. :)

Agreed. Nick has like 11 rebounds in the last two games.

That has been my montra for the kid. If the light has finally gone on than he is either a viable keeper or high trade value on the way up.

I know it's hard to see about nick because he has been such a goofy smily score only player that offered little more then hot shooting every four games or so but nick is a pure Shooter in the category of a ray Allen. If he is actually going to rebound n contribute in other ways then he isn't dead minutes when his shot isn't falling. Plus I actually think it will allow him to play more loose on offense since he won't get yanked as quick if he is contributing in other ways. This could limit the number of games in between hot streaks.

So.... Nick rebounding is huge in regards to his value. This is why we didn't trade him in the off season. Never trade low.

Now we need to see if nick can do it three games in a row. I may have to change my sig before long.

Gee Close To Rejoining Wiz

Post#14 » by dlts20 » Mon Nov 22, 2010 3:31 pm

Sources: Alonzo Gee close to rejoining Washington Wizards
By Michael Lee

The Wizards are on the verge of an unlikely reunion, with the team moving closer toward signing swingman Alonzo Gee, according to two league sources.

Gee spent part of last season with the Wizards, moving from a 10-day contract player to a starter, before bolting for San Antonio after his second 10-day contract expired. The Spurs offered Gee some guaranteed money through this season, which appeared more enticing than the Wizards' plans to keep him for the rest of the season. San Antonio waived Gee last week.

The Wizards have 15 players under contract, which means they would have to release someone. Lester Hudson is on a non-guaranteed contract and stands as the most likely candidate.

Great. This ends that 3 guard lineup crap I was talking about. Al better step up now. On a side note, I said last year that Gee was an idiot. He probably listened to his agent. No way he shouldve left us for SA and a guaranteed contract the following season. He's a D-Leaguer who wants to play. He couldve played big minutes in alot of games for us down the stretch. Sure we sucked and werent going to make the playoffs. We also werent going to gurantee him a contract but he shouldve known that he wouldve went to SA and not even dress for 1 single game. He shouldve known that with our roster he wouldve gotten a contract this year even if we didnt gurantee it.

If he wouldve stayed & played well then we might not even had signed Howard and it couldve been his show. Dont get me wrong, I still love Howard and he is the guy if healthy but Im just speaking from a Gee standpoint. Good move anyways as Hudson doesnt look ready for the pros at all and Al is struggling as of late. We also need that toughness and both him & McGee will be crazy with Wall pushing the rock

Okay. Who gets cut?

Here is out depth chart:
Wall, Arenas, Howard, Blatche, McGee
Hinrich, Young, Thornton, Yi, Amstrong
Hudson, Martin, Booker, Seraphin, N'Diaye

Looks like Hudson or Martin has to go - unless they've given up on N'Diaye already.

Obviously, as a big Gee supporter I'm excited about this possibility. He certainly has a lot of athletic gifts and perhaps he can continue to develop. If they're serious about giving him a chance I would just cut Martin as they would be redundant. If they really like Martin (but want Gee) then I would cut Hudson. I don't think they've given up on Hamady, but we will see.

Hudson is tricky. Had a great SL, had a great camp, had a good Preseason, but he's looked like garbage in the real games. Martin is clearly more reliable but we wont need that postion as much with Gee around. Tough call. Id still cut Hudson. Martin plays way better defense and Hudson is just an unreliable, undersized SG trapped in a PG's body.

We dont really need that positon when you really think about it because we are already 3 guards deep at the point. Even though Gil & Kirk play the 2 and sometimes even the 3, they are all easily PG capable and actually prefer it. Meaning, even if 2 of those guys got hurt, you could still start one of them at the point, play them 36-40mpg with NY at the 2. You can also then sign a PG at that time if needed, like we did with Boykins. Also, we still dont know what to expect from Howard. He could easily still be hurt

I have not seen a single thing from Hudson that makes me want to keep him.

Hudson is probably less likely to be picked up by another team if he is cut. Undersized 2-guards are a dime-a-dozen. Martin might get picked up. Role playing "3 and D" types are always wanted. With that in mind, it probably makes the most sense to cut Hudson. As dlts20 points out, we'd still have 3 high quality PG's on the roster. If two of them get hurt, we'll probably be able to resign Hudson on a 10-day contract.

What we really need is a consolodation trade. How about Blatche + Thornton + Young for Blake Griffin. :D
